Guide to field Soldering

Step 2Helping Hand

Helping Hand
If you've soldered much you know that this is necessary. There isn't much to instruct on here. There have been many instructables on making these but, this one folds flat. This is how I built mine. Very simple. Heavy gauge copper wire with an alligator clip. Very easy to use, just bend the clip up over the base. (picture in a moment)

It would be a good idea to glue the  helping hand to the inside of the lid

You can also put a small bolt through the side of the altoids tin. When you need the helping hand, loosen the bolt with the nail clippers, wrap the end of the wire around the bolt, and tighten it. The altoids tin becomes a base. Even tho it's light when empty, it's big enough to be stable, except for bulky items like circuit boards. But the wire alone would have problems with those also.
