Guitar wall hanger

Keep your guitars out of the reach of small children...
And midgets... if you so choose.

Hang the gee tar on the wall and enjoy.

I made three of these for just over 8 bucks when Guitar Center was charging 15.00 each for them.

Great Instructable! Unfortunately, neither Home Depot or Lowe's had the right too hanger size, so I had to use a little different one. It was too big for my acoustic, so I put my Squier strat on it. Because of the headstock, I had to angle the hook, but it still turned out great. Here's some pics:

Very nice tip, I'm hanging a Squier Showmaster from this thing. I made one adjustment though, I sawed the wood rod in half vertically. I just prefer the mount be flat against the wall (doesn't move left to right).

Thaaannnkkk you! Great Idea!! I was actually looking for this on Ebay, they didnt have a pic of what it would look like on a wall with the guitar and found this!! I am a gal and think I could do this myself to hang hubby's guitar as a suprise!! He just happens to be away !! After reading some of the comments, I think I will screw it to a stud as its an electric guitar and maybe wrap the rod with fabric or leather (to protect the guitar from rubbing) but I am going to give it a whirl.

hey, i went and bought all the supplies this weekend, the hook was just over $2.oo and i got the exact wood pieces you did, two of them for $2.oo total. i found the wood rod at Lowe's, but it was labeled as Stairwell Railing, instead of closet rod. i'm really excited about this. thanks again -nick

you, my friend, are the man. my wife and i just moved into an apartment and we have two small children, the oldest being almost two. she LOVES to play with my guitars, which i allow as long as i am holding it, because i don't want to squelch her interest in the instrument. unfortunately though, she has learned how to unlatch the cases, so now, mu guitars aren't safe anywhere while i am away. i was just talking to mywife LAST NIGHT about hanging my guitars on the wall, so now, thanks to you, i can do that this weekend for much cheaper. thank you!!!!!!!

You can find the hooks at Wal-Mart, K-mart, and probably hardware stores also. They are in the bike accessory area or garage organizational stuff. I saw some sold as bike hooks to hang your bike up in the garage.

Great project. Was curious where you were able to locate closet rod that thick w/a flat side. I couldn't find any at the local Home Depot or Ace hardware. Or did you have to plane it flat?

I am thinking that it is not closet rod, I think that is some railing rod. The flat side so you can support it from the bottom.

No reason you have to use a round closet rod; a rectangular block of wood would work as well (though the rod looks nicer).

or even this for more equipment. BTW thanks for the idea. saved me a lot of money. The wood is screwed into the studs behind the drywall. I recommend that if you value your equipment, then fasten any hangers you make properly and securely.

Hey man. Where did you get the 'hook' piece with the screw in the back of it? I went by Guitar Center today and they only had pre-fab kits, no extra pieces like that one.

Just a suggestion for extra safety on it just take another one of those little wall mount things and let the neck rest within it so it cant fall over
