Step 2: The Procedure

With the following recepie I was able to make two-and-a-half shot glasses which is roughly 4 oz.

  1. Place 1/3 cup hot water in a small sauce pan. Pour the Jello and unflavored gelatin over the water. We will have a saturated mixture that is very thick an grainy
  2. Let sit for 5 minutes.
  3. Place sauce pan over medium heat and stir until gelatin is dissolved completely, about 5 minutes.
  4. When mixture is liquid and all gelatin has dissolved, remove from heat.
  5. Let cool for 3 minutes and then pour into the shot glass molds. (make sure to see where the shot glass mold needs to be filled to and insert the plug that will form the well for the shot glasses)
  6. After the glasses are poured put them in the fridge for about 20 min
  7. When they have solidified pull them out of the mold
  8. To prevent them from sticking, put a small amount of cornstarch in your hand and rub it onto the glasses, it will take away the gloss finish on it but it will no loner stick to anything.
  9. Take shot, repeat if necessary, eat shot glass and enjoy!
I was wondering how you managed to get the shot glasses out...? I tried making a set and they either got destroyed in the removing process, or did not come out at all...
I just lightly pulled on them until they slid out. When you are removing them see if you are able to get air to to shoot to the bottom of the mold so you do not have a vacuum form when you are removing them.
could you coat the mold with cornstarch before you pour the mixture in?
Tried that on one, it came out easily but but did not look as appetizing as the ones without the cornstarch.
I want to know where you get gelatin for $0.25 a box???? I buy it ever so often to make a Portuguese Cream Pie and I can not get any box of it for even close.
I live near a discount grocey store and they sometimes get shipments of it in.

have u tried dusting them with powered sugar? it might make them a it sweeter than the cornstartch . i dont know how itll affect the gloss.
The only concern I had with powdered sugar is that if there is any humidity around it could cause everything to stick together and just be a gooey mess, but I'll have to try it to see if it does work.
Just picked up a mold from Michels for a $2.

You could try melting the rim with hot water to smooth it. Also just out of intrest, did they end up cheaper than $2.50 each?
Yes, they only ended costing about $0.25 a piece. The gelatin only cost me $0.25 a box (well this is assuming you take out the price of the mold out of the picture).
