After the cut the wire between main bord and front side you must conected to the vumeter.
if you have old vumeter from old radio you can use ti,if you dont have it build or buy a kit
the vumeter is suplaying by 12v from your flopy or hard dis drive measure the volts before you conect to the vumeter,only positive wire of 12v you conect to the vumeter,the ground you conect from hddled,and hdd led it has positive and negative wire,positive from hddled from main bord you conect to signal in+,and negative wire from hddled you conect to ground suplay of vumeter just like on picture

You should really use the negative of the power supply you get 12 volts from, as the ground on the motherboard is for 5 volts so the PCB tracks are not as thick, using them for 12 volts could cause damage.
