French toast is a big big classic of french food, but unlike many traditional recipes its process is definitely on the easy side. watch the recipe :
Step 1: THE BATTER
- 1 CUP WHOLE MILK
- 2 EGGS
- 4 TBSP SUGAR
Mix that in a bowl along with
A pinch of Cinnamon A drop of vanilla extract and a touch of salt.
Step 2: SERVINGS
You have enough liquid, to make at least a dozen french toast.
Step 3: SANDWICH BREAD
Make 1cm or half an inch thick slices out of sandwich bread. IMO, If you make thin slices, you can only get undercooked or overcooked french toast but there’s no way you’ll achieve that perfect crispy outside and moist fluffy inside. It’s exactly like FRENCH FRIES.
Step 4: SOAKING
Soak them in batter, flip and again. They must be significantly heavier afterwards.
Step 5: COOKING
PUT a frying pan, or in my case a skillet over medium LOW heat.
Coat it with neutral oil like canola or peanut oil using kitchen paper.
Place the slices in, and make sure there is a full surface contact.
Usually you don’t need more than 10 minutes to cook those slices.
Step 6: FINISHING
A minute before the end, Sprinkle a tiny amount of sugar on both sides.
And that is how you make a great FRENCH TOAST. Easy, Reliable and most important Delicious. Thin , Crispy caramelized crust outside. Inside it’s moist, soft and feels a bit like a light custard. Of course you can use toppings like strawberries and almonds but if it’s done properly, I like mine simple.
