Step 1: WHAT YOU WILL NEED

IMGP1952.JPG
What you need for replacing the flint in a Zippo:

-Long nose pliers or Flat head screwdriver
-New flints (i find zippo or swan extra long flints are best)
-A Zippo in need of a new flint

Are you meant to use pliers? Isn't this a screwdriver or fingers job?

its actually made so that you can use the edge of the zippo shell
sharlston (author) in reply to lemonieJul 27, 2009. 1:11 PM
if you prefer to use a flathead screwdriver or your fingers you can

Out of interest: did you find the Zippo? In my experience Zippos tend to be lost and found more often than they're bought...

lemonie in reply to sharlstonJul 27, 2009. 2:34 PM
I found and lost at least two - never bough one. I prefer Clippers myself. Oh, free tip: Zippos don't burn well on regular petrol (I found that out - sooty) L
rownhunt in reply to lemonieJul 29, 2009. 3:38 PM
Petrol or Gasoline ruins lighters use the proper fuel because as you said it soot's up and it make everything soot up and it wont run as well and will need a long cleaning job!

when you say cliipers do they look like clippers becuase ive seen some black or silver ones by swan also i might get one how do you put a new flint in is it the same method as a zippo?
lemonie in reply to sharlstonJul 29, 2009. 3:42 PM
Yer classic (real) Clippers have a removable flint-stick. You grasp the wheel and pull it out. At the bottom is a plastic screw - after that it's just like your Zippo instructable (screw, spring, flint) L
sharlston (author) in reply to lemonieNov 20, 2010. 2:06 PM
How much are real clippers?
lemonie in reply to sharlstonNov 21, 2010. 1:23 AM

I forget, but a quid should be enough.

You'll post an instructable? It's the wick that is crucial in these things, if it works it'll be good to see. L

I made an olive oil lamp that ran overnight until it was out of oil. I'd be interested to see yours as I might do something with mine one day. It's all in the wicking... L

just a tip if you do tricks with ya zippo:
if the lid of ypure zippo touches the bottom part of the zippo when its open simply open  the zippo until the lid is at a angle so its about 1cm off the side of the zippo then take some needle nose pliers and squeeze the sides of the hinge

Just FYI, when you want to create your next instructable, find the "macro" mode on your camera. You'll find that these close-up shots will come out beautifully in focus if you do.
sharlston (author) in reply to nagutronJul 28, 2009. 1:34 AM
