I decided to build this because i have been trying to find a way to pull a straight up to lift stuff and the knex motors just don't have enough torqe.

Step 1: The Pieces

These are the pieces that you will need

5 long green rods
15 yellow rods
13 blue rods
5 white rods
14 short green rods
2 long gray rods
10 small grey connectors
17 yellow connectors
10 3D connectors
2 blue connectors
12 red connectors
2 white connectors
2 gear connectors
2 gears
2 rubber bands

Step 2: The Base

This is the base of the winch
for this you will need these pieces

10 blue and gray 3D pieces
12 yellow rods
5 long green rods
2 blue rods
2 short green rods

Step 3: The Shaft

for this part you will need these parts

9 small gray connectors
7 red connectors
3 yellow connectors
2 long gray rods
2 gear locks
2 gears

Step 4: 1st Gear Lock

the purpose of this lock with the help of the gear lock is to keep the shaft from spinning in both directions.
all the parts that you will need are.

6 yellow connectors
1 yellow rod
1 blue rod
3 short green rods
1 white connector
1 rubber band

Step 5: 2nd Gear Lock Release Switch

This part will release the lock on the second gear.

for this part you will need these pieces

3 white rods
4 yellow connectors
6 blue rods
1 red connector

Step 6: 2nd Gear Lock

this is the gear setup that will turn the drive shaft when you pull the handle back and forth.

10 short green rods
4 yellow connectors
4 red connectors
3 blue rods
3 gray connectors
2 blue connectors
1 white connector
1 rubber band

remember after you have the rubber band on you have to turn the white connector in a clockwise motion so that there is tension on the rubber band before you set it on the gear.

Step 7: Putting the Parts Together Part 1

in this step you will start to put the pieces in there positions.

Step 8: Putting the Parts Together Part 2

in this step you will put the handle together and attach it to the drive shaft.
great job in designing this although it could be a little more clear i made one using this instructable and the pictures but i couldn't have done it if i hadn't had my special skills you need to improve this a ton
arrgghhgh, so confusing it looks like im building 2 3 different things at once
i agree
its 7 blue rods
works a treat :D just need summink for it to power now
So you've torqued down a hand crank, interesting. Try putting more transmissions on, and then add a motor.
there arnt any transmissions on it this system works like a rachtet and the reason why it has more torqe is because u r using the force of your arm so the limit in weight it can lift is until the shaft breaks or the base breaks
Oh, ok, I thought it was to amplify the torque of the effort put in, but I can see now that it is not.
how does it work?
it works like a ratchet when you pull the handleone way it turns the shaft but when u push it back the other way thanks to th gear setup or (ratchet system) the shaft won't turn in the other direction keeping whatever you are lifting or pulling from falling down
I cant see the handle
ok well here is 2 pictures
This is pretty cool, but isn't it a bit overkill?
no not really because honestly most knex motors just won't cut it for my intentions. it really just depends what you are using it for
nice
