I used to surf webs of tech and design like yanko designs. They have some mad creations that make me laugh, but there're smart designs too. Some time ago, I read a post about an accessory for the frequent writer that makes the job a bit lighter. I liked so much but I didn't know what material use in order to build one. At least, until I met Sugru!

The design is called "Emma" and his designer is Gyu-Ryung Park. This product protects your fingers of those small calluses and helps the writing with an ergonomic position. This uncommon accessory reduces hand fatigue and prevents blood circulation problems in your fingers. It can also be used as a trainer for kids and new writers in order to improve their writing performance. For more info, click the link bellow.

Step 1: Materials and Tools

All you need for this project are:

Material:
- Sugru (with 5g its ok)
- A pencil

Tools:
- Scissors
- Your hands
- Cutter (optional)

Step 2: Mold Sugru

First of all, wash your hands and clean the pencil. Then, open the sugru bag with the scissors. Roll the Sugru in your hands making a ball. Afterwards, mold sugru around the pencil. Next, make a ring with more sugru so as to cover your middle finger(the hole must be a little bigger than your finger). Stick the two parts, introduce your middle finger in the ring and press the ring in order to adapt it to your finger. Take out your finger gently.

The last three steps are a bit difficult, be patient and try them so many times as you need.

In order to improve the holder; mold Sugru with your fingers using your usual position to write. Press with the fingertips of your index finger and your thump in the place they should be.

Step 3: Let It Dry

Leave to cure aprox. twenty-four hours. Then, cut the upside with scissors or a cutter to make easier to extract the pencil. Take apart the pencil removing one side of the handwriting helper.

Step 4: Extra Tips

If the ring is so large that is uncomfortable, use more Sugru in order to fix it (hack the hack....funny isn't it?).

If, instead of large, your ring is smaller than you had expected, use a power drill or sand paper so as to do a bigger hole.

The last one was my case, so you can see the effects of the mad surgery bellow.

Step 5: Conclusions

In my case, I did the hole so small; in fact I had to sand it. Before sand it, it was useful but a bit uncomfortable; now is totally awesome. Maybe Sugru isn't the best material to make this project but is soft enough to have a great accessory as fast as say pencil. Actually, is so soft as those pen protectors and the ring made it easily to catch. I test it during I think 2 hours writing continuously (oh I hate literature) and I can say that is very helpful. Besides, I have a horrible letter and I wonder if it will be helpful in that way. Might in some weeks I’ll post it.
