Step 9Water

Water
Tim:
I've carried a water filter all over the place and never used it. Then I used it without reading the directions and drank the silver poison crap it came packed with. Then I let it get moldy. Buy drinking water. It costs one dollar/shekel/money thing everywhere in the world.
My filter cost me $70. I wish I'd spent the money on 70 units of water instead.

bring a camel back and tablets. i was on a 100 mile hike and drank 10+ liters a day. we had micro pures and i tasted nothing different. i had 3 nalgeens as back ups and refilled everything whenever i could by just popping in a micro pure and waiting 30 min.

I' m afraid i totally disagree with your advice. Wasting plastic bottles, just because you are being lazy in using your filter properly or just because it only costs a dollar, sounds horrible. Remember that espessially under developed countries dont have advanced garbage treament, and neither make recycling.
Actually they could it work it much better without all the plastic that comes along with tourism. And even in  developed countries plastic use should be also avoided. Didn't you know? Actually you should know it after so much travelling...
By the way, there are varius types of filter you could use. One of them, 100% effective is the uv filter, that only takes half minute and you can drink the water straight away.
Plus that costs 50 euros and  can purify  thousands of litters. So even economically, it's much better.
So stop buying more and more plastic and find alternatives.

Oo oo!! Check the seal on top of your bottles before you open them! I was in India and some kid tried to sell me a used bottle refilled at the tap crawling with Montezuma or Mahatma Gandhi's revenge. Take a bottle out of the airport trash and refill it from a drinking fountain? Instant dollar or rupee or money thing! They say crush and throw away your water bottles so scammers can't do this to you!
