Hanging Ghoul

After seeing these type of scary looking monsters hanging in the halloween stores, I decided to make my own. The hardest part is actually waiting for the mask to dry.

What I used was:
a cheap cardboard mask form from the craft store
flour
water
newspaper, torn in strips
instant coffee
Gorilla glue, I used clear (turns white when dry)
creepy cloth from a dollar store (a dollar compared to about five at other places) but use your favorite
a long stick from my yard, about 3-4 feet
a short stick about 6-8 inches long, this will become the neck
mod podge glue (any thick will work)
paper towels
plastic covered work surface
thick bendable wire
raffia

 Make a paper mache' mixture of
flour, water and instant coffee granules. Amount is up to you mine was the color of light caramel.
 Soak your newspaper in this mixture
On your plastic covered work surface take your cardboard mask and add layers of the soaked newspaper and cover completely. 
Let dry enough until you can handle it.
Soak strips of paper towels in the paper mache' and place layers on the masks, smoosh this around to your liking.
When this dries the coffee becomes darker which adds to the creepy look.
When dried enough coat the entire thing, front and back with your outdoor glue.
 Take the short stick and wrap it with enough wire to have about 8-12 inches at one end. Coat with Gorilla glue, while wet wrap in a layer of paper towel and add more glue. Keep layering like this until you have enough bulk to later attach to the mask.
Let dry.
When you have covered your mask in the layers of coffee colored paper mache' (as many as it takes to your liking) let it dry enough to handle.
Coat the mask inside and out with outdoor glue. Let dry completely  
Take the longer stick and drape the creep cloth to hang on both sides. You can secure with hot glue or twist ties if you like.
To assemble you need to take the shorter stick and attach it to the longer one in the center. Make sure it's good and tight. Use the Gorilla glue to help join these permanetly together (I think this works better than hot glue, plus since it expands and turns white it hids the works)
 Hang this guy outside either with the raffia or what you have on hand.
