Introduction: Harry Potter "Lumos" Light Switch

About: I love anything craft or fandom related. (Both combined is the best)

This is one of the many fun and easy ways to decorate a Harry Potter themed bedroom. There are many different ways to make this project, but I'll be showing you an easy way that requires nothing more than paint and your imagination. Have fun!

Step 1: Materials

What you'll need for this project:

1. A plain white light switch plate (you can get them at a hardware store for a few dollars)

2. Two colors of acrylic paint (I used Black and Silver)

3. A small paint brush and a larger paint brush

4. A cotton ball (optional)

Step 2: Painting the Background

Begin by painting the top half silver, and the bottom half black. Don't worry about how messy it is where the two colors join, because you'll be painting over that in a minute.

Now the bottom half should be the first color (black), and the top half the second color (silver).

.

Step 3: Finishing the Background

Dip a cotton ball in your silver paint and dab lightly on the edge of the two colors, which gives the effect of both colors blending together. When it's dry, you can paint lightly over it with a paint brush to complete the effect.

Step 4: Painting the Words

Now for the fun (and more difficult) part. With a sharpie, write the spell "Lumos" on the top half of the light switch plate.

On the bottom half of the plate, paint "Nox" with silver (and a small paintbrush). If you want, you can try to write the words in Harry Potter font.

Step 5: Finishing

When the paint is completely dry, it is ready to be put on the wall. But, if you want to make sure the paint doesn't chip, spray the plate with clear gloss (outside) and let it dry. This protects the paint from chipping or ruining.

I hope you liked this Instructable and please post pictures if you make one yourself!
