In this Instructable, I will be showing you how to make someone lock them self in a room!!!
The cool thing about this prank is that once it is set up, you can leave it and walk away. The victim unknowingly activates the prank themselves. Once the person enters their room and shuts the door behind them, the torture has begun!

The concept is simple, you have a room or bathroom with one of those push button or twisty locks, like shown in the picture. You take off the door knob assembly and put it back on, but backwards! This leaves the locky part on the outside of the room, where the prisoner cannot access it to free them self from their newly found prison cell. Now most locks do indeed have a little hole or something that you can shimmy a paper clip into to unlock the door. I will show you how to easily disable this feature, temporarily so that this prank will be perfect.

I want everyone to be aware that THIS WILL NO DOUBT LOCK THEM IN WITH NO ESCAPE!!!!! This system is dangerously foolproof and will lock someone inside a room or bathroom with no escape! Don't pull this prank if it's possible that an emergency could arise where a person would absolutely need to exit the room, because they will not be able to until someone comes and turns the knob on the outside. Please be responsible but also have tons of fun cuz it's April Fools!!!!! :P

Good Luck and remember to

You will need:

- A room with a door knob with a twisty or push lock
- A phillips screwdriver to unscrew the door knob
- A BB or pellet, something about that size to block the outside unlock mechanism
- About 3 minutes

The twisty ones usually have no hole on the other side of the knob because there is a keyhole there. this won't work without jamming the lock. Nice try, but dangerous if you forget to return the lock to working order after

you can jimmy the lock, i made a mini set of stuff you need to jimmy a lock in my pocket

Good prank. One suggestion to pull off the instructible a little more professionally (and don't take this the wrong way - it's something I've seen on eBay as well): consider reflective surfaces and wear appropriate clothing.

No. If you want votes, make stuff worth voting for. I'm not saying this is a bad 'ible by any means at all, but please don't beg like this :-( it ruins things.

See the tiny hole in the non-lock side of the handle?

Straighten a metal hanger and push into the hole...the door unlocks.  Any small, relatively straight object will do it.  Ballpoint pen, little metal loop that holds the chain for the bathtub plug, etc.

I think the poster says it best himself.

"Don't pull this prank if it's possible that an emergency could arise where a person would absolutely need to exit the room, because they will not be able to until someone comes and turns the knob on the outside. "

It is called an emergency because it is happening quickly and is possibly life threatening. a.k.a. accident as in I didn't mean for it to happen like this.

The idea is funny but best done on a TV show where a camera crew is in the room with them.

Does this damage the door knob?
knex gun enthusiast says: Feb 26, 2010. 12:52 PM
on some bathroom doors you can lock people in without reversing the lockset. on older door knob sets putting an object into the outside hole thing actually disconnects the inside door handle from the rest of the mechanism, that way the person inside can't hold the door handle manually. If you put a thin dowel into this slot and use an elastic to hold it there the person inside can spin the handle on their side as much as they want but it won't do a thing. pushing the little button will push the dowel out on the other side but the door handle will still be disconnected.

if you are ever in this situation you can empty(partially) a toothpaste tube and use the end to push back the latch. (like credit carding a door). It's usually easier than taking off the hinges as inside door frames are usually quite tight.
over-rev says: Mar 23, 2009. 3:54 PM
never mind its not awesome they can just take the hinges off and the bb thing did not work
livesteamfan in reply to over-revFeb 5, 2010. 6:24 PM
That may not be possible. Most doors close over the hinge so all you can see is the barrel where the pin is which is normally locked in somehow.
Marrock in reply to over-revAug 27, 2009. 10:01 AM
Just take the door off the hinges, that's what a good pair of boots is for. Is someone ever tried this, so-called, joke on me he'd better hope he can run faster scared than I can pissed off.
DuFFxP93 (author) in reply to over-revMar 23, 2009. 8:23 PM
Oh, and what are the chances of someone having a screwdriver handy? Unless you lock them in ur tool closet, the hinges coming off isn't a real possibility.

What the heck is a morning star? Is it some kinda ninja thingy?
necropolian in reply to stapledpantsApr 26, 2009. 1:41 AM
no sorry, i meant a flail. read this: The flail is a medieval weapon made of one (or more) weights attached to a handle with a hinge or chain. There is some disagreement over the names for this weapon; the terms "morning star", and even "mace" are variously applied, though these are used to describe other weapons, which are very different in usage from a weapon with a hinge or chain, commonly used in Europe from the 13th century to the 15th century. In construction, the morning star and flail have similar, if not identical, spiked heads. Thus, morning star is an often used name for this weapon, especially as the name "flail" is also used to describe a style of whip used for flagellation. perfect to smash in a door, or wall!

Now, where in the world would you get a flail / morning star!!!???
necropolian in reply to Stephen D. AlverezJun 26, 2009. 12:12 AM
simple. there are many historic sites where they sell decorative swords, like the Mons Saint Michel in France. last time is was there, three shops sold swords, and other stuff. I bought a sword in a fortress somewhere in Germany, a month ago. the flail, i got mine from my uncle, but there are flails at those historical sites too.

necropolian in reply to matstermindSep 8, 2009. 9:13 AM
around here, most people don't do garage sales. actually, they do nothing. you'd be suprised if you saw how many children are out to 'trick or treat' at halloween. i'd say, two per square mile. but thanks for the idea...
