Introduction: Head in a Box Photo

About: I enjoy making things. My making them is usually based on necessity, the fact that it doesn't exist, and/or buying it pre-done would be way more expensive. I like all kinds of projects and find this site a ver…

Here's a fun setup for a holiday card. Since most holiday pics are for groups, this is a fun one for individuals. You can do a collage of a group or do multiple heads in a larger box.

Step 1: Materials

A cardboard box (I used a 12 x 9.5 x 7)
Bubble Wrap ( I used 5 - 12 x 12 sheets)
Utility knife
Adhesive tape
2 ft piece of ribbon or strip of cloth
Camera (Actual or cell phone)

Optional- another person

Step 2: Cut the Box

Using the utility knife, cut the bottom of the box leaving a 1 1/2 inch border. At one of the smaller sides, cut a U shaped opening that will fit your neck. On the two back borders that run vertically with head, make a hole with the utility knife at the center of each border. Reinforce the bottom of the corners with adhesive tape.

Thread the ribbon through the holes, tie it later to secure the box on your head.

Bubble wrap is the next step.

Step 3: Taping the Bubble Wrap

With the box open, place the bubble wrap on the inside each side of the box and tape down. Skew the wrap so it does not lay flat and looks like an opened package. Make sure not to cover the opening for your neck. Tape a piece of bubble wrap to the bottom of the box and cut a slit in the center. This will be where you put your head in and will be behind your head.

Step 4: Setting Up the Shot

Put the box on your head, secure the back. Lay on the floor or bed, this will be your background. Wear a shirt in the color of the background, this will help the illusion. You can place other boxes by your box, to aid the illusion. Take pictures using your camera or have someone take them of you.

Step 5: Enjoy Your Fun Pictures!

Try different expressions. Shocked, smiling, goofy, or dead pan.

Warning: When doing this you may feel like Jambi from Peewee's Playhouse and may start saying "Meka leka hi meka hiney ho"

Enjoy!
