I came up with this one year when I needed something quick for Valentine's Day.

Materials
- cake mix
- frosting
- 8" square cake pan
- 8" round cake pan

Step 1: Bake the Cake

Make the cake mix as you normally would, dividing the batter between the two pans so that they're roughly the same height. Bake and let cool before starting on the cutting.

For a fatter shaped heart, with less "puzzling" involved, you could just cut the round cake in half, and stick each half onto two adjacent sides of the square cake. If you don't mind cutting off scrap anyway, you can always trim that down to a more pleasing shape from there. Nice heart though!

I've also seen it done where the square is cut diagonally and rearranged as a big triangle, with the halves of the round placed on top.
