Introduction: Herbie Banana Pie

It was only a matter of time that this pie would come into existence, almost as though, with infinite time and a finite of possible ingredients, one must believe that it is a mathematical inevitability this pie would exist at some point in time, as real as Pi, but far less permanent, that is, once it has been sampled.

This pie may look simple and its creation is simple but  this pie is complex or better said, this pie is an enigma.

Ingredients

1 box cook and serve banana cream pudding *
3 cups milk **
1 9" graham cracker crust ***
2 bananas
1 jar marshmallow cream
1 6 oz cream cheese

* There is a big difference in texture, flavor, and quality between the cook and serve and the instant puddings, use the cooked since it creates a firmer pudding.

* Organic milk is what I choose since there is no need to consume hormones if it can be avoided.

** 0% High Fructose Corn Syrup and because I can avoid this chemical, I do.

NOTE : A baked flour crust would also work well with this pie or a homemade graham crust, the pre-made makes it easier for anyone to make this pie. Even the use of Nilla wafers would be good, but avoid the HFCS if at all possible.

Step 1: Cook the Pudding

As per the instructions for the banana pudding mix, add three cups of milk and the banana cream pie mix in a medium saucepan and cook on medium heat, stirring constantly to keep the milk from scorching, bring to a full boil.

Once the pudding is cooked and thickened, set aside for a few minutes while you prepare the crust and bananas, be sure to stir the pudding occasionally to prevent a skin from forming on its surface.

Step 2: Prepare the Shell

Peel and slice two bananas into medallions, which if you notice are pie shaped with each slice having the same ratio between its circumference and diameter, think about it.

Line the bottom and sides of the pie crust with the slices of bananas and pour the pudding into the pie shell and let sit on the counter until it is cool enough to place the plastic pie shell shield as a dome over the pie without the pie sweating.

Store on a cleared shelf to chill, you could use Pi to calculate the area you need in the refrigerator, but throwing out the old spaghetti and moldy science project in that Tupper thingy will save you from having to do the math. Overnight works for me, but 2 hours should be fine if you have been contemplating the how to prove the postulate that this is the best banana cream pie ever; this pie defines banana cream pie to at least 314 places.

Step 3: Blend the Topping

Next we prepare the topping that changes the whole equation and it is proof that pie was not defined, until now.

Blend the cream cheese with the contents of the jar of marshmallow cream until smooth, feel free to blend it well, high speed works well. The blending will heat up the cream and make it easy to gently dollop onto the center of the pie and spread outward toward the edge and right up to the graham cracker crust.

Since the cream topping is soft, it would be better to let set in the refrigerator for about an hour, however, if you cannot wait to prove the equation, you can intersect the circle with your knife and serve up some rad pieces of pie!

Even though the pie has a cream topping, adding whipped cream to the pie is nothing but profit.

I hope you enjoy this recipe, it is easy to make and so easy to eat; heck, I would even take one in the face - Gravity Boy
