Here is my knex gun. I made it after getting bored with seeing the same old killerk ripoffs over and over again. It is single shot with a sear-system trigger. If you use the right bands, you can get it to go about 30ft.
This is my first Instructable, comments are welcome. Here's me on Youtube firing it.

Step 1: 1

Ok, you lasted this long on another knex gun Instructable. I suggest you pat yourself on the back and have a soda/beer.
Anyway, the first thing you need to do is make all the pieces/parts.
Pics are going to do a better job of explaining. Here is an exploded view of the gun.

Step 2: 2

Ok now you've seen the all the parts and seen in the video how they work. I'll show how to build the individual parts now, starting with the barrel.

The barrel is made of 2 grey rods, 17 red pieces (45 degrees), 3 white pieces (full circle), 2 yellow pieces (half circle), 3 blue pieces (full circles that slide together), and 2 green pieces (tiny rods). The tactical mount is made of a yellow rod and 2 blue pieces. Assemble as shown in the photos. Didn't get all of that? Reread this paragraph and look at the pics. Still didn't understand what to do? Advance to nearest large drop and jump over. You're a waste of oxygen and contribute nothing to the human genome.

Step 3: 3

Alright, assuming you're not a revenging corpse or ghost, we'll work on the handle. Oh by the way, I was just kidding about committing suicide. There is a rubber band on the handle to desensitize the trigger. It's right on the green piece in the middle.

Step 4: 4

Right, now we'll make the trigger. It is designed to release the cocked plunger by pushing on it.

Step 5: 5

Ok now for the plunger. It is a good idea to put some tape where the yellow piece and red rod connect. I found that multiple stretchy rubber bands work better than one heavy band.

Step 6: 6

Now for the trigger block/ rear assembly.

Step 7: 7

Now to assemmbly. The trickiest part is the rear/trigger assembly. You can see that the blue rod on the trigger slides into the holes on the green pieces of the block. A blue spacer on either side keeps them stable.

Step 8: 8

To commplete the rear assembly, you need to connect the trigger block and handle. The trigger is to slide into the center of the handle, and be held by the rubberband.

Step 9: 9

Right, putting it all together. The handle snaps onto the barrel and the plunger slides in, and is secured by the rubberbands, which loop onto the yellow pieces. You can change their position to compensate for rubberband size.

Step 10: 10

All of those white pieces are ammmo clips. I find for maximum effectiveness, shoot either 1 blue rod, 2 white rods, or 5 green pegs. To cock, pull the plunger back and set it on the trigger block (as in video). Pull on the trigger, point the barrel and fire. Oops, my bad, point your barrel before pulling the trigger (duh). I can get about 30 ft with the blue rod, and about 15 with the green pegs. The tactical mount is perfect for a small flashlight and red dot projector.
uuuuuuuuuuuummmmmmmmmm why did i find this in the rockets?
Im having troubles getting the trigger make the ram go off its lock and it has 4 bands on it. Please help
Instead of the beige pieces could you use blue with no hole without the little thing sticking off it
To the knex gunners (the 13year olds who can't spell): Go do something better with your life. Your arguments are radiculous. I really don't want your help. To the knex engineers (the college grads who spell): Thanks for the help in this argument. To the anti-knex gun people (rimar 2000): Your arguments are ridiculous as well. Your never going to convince these turd brains about guns. You have many good points for disliking the "knex gun" community. I don't like them either. I was working n this Instructable for weeks, I was quite eager for my first Instructable, so I didn't time the publishing date well. I suggest you also get a life, if your entire pation is to stamp out knex guns, you have more mental issues than the VT guy.
i don't understand how a sear system works. could you explain for me?
A sear system is a different type of trigger setup. the &quot;Sear&quot;(Part on the back of the gun)holds the firing pin back instead of just blocking it. the trigger pushes the sear down releasing the firing pin to fire the gun.<br /> <br /> most real guns use sear systems.
ahh thanks :)<br />
hey i am good and have good arguments and cant spell, where am i on that list?
lol, nice gun. i like sear systems. i think this is one of the better knex guns.
can i ask what is a sear system??<br />
Thanks : ) I guess you fall into an uncategorized category. Try using FireFox, it has a spell check.
I do use firefox lol. its a glitch that i think my computer is causing. more then half the time i click on the spell check, and it sends me to the top of the Instructable. i have no idea why. but that is the reason why my spelling is still bad. btw, i also have a bad memory for the spelling of words because English is messed up.
that is is! : )
Check out my sear system rifle!
I built a knex gun with sears trigger, but the trigger looks normal! and the trigger gets pullled normally.
Sorry, I don't want to be impertinent, but it makes sick me the proliferation of "knex gun" in Instructables. Really. There in USA, don't you have enough still with that of Virginia and all the similar episodes that happened?
Why do you think killings like Virginia Tech occur? Because too many Americans allow their children to play with toy guns and progress into ultra-violent video games and rap music. It's just acceptable behavior here. BTW: I never owned a toy gun and neither did my children. As an adult, I still refuse to own a gun. A gun only has one purpose. To kill another human being.
im soory but i disagree guns do kill people but if the sportsmen now treated their weapons like people in the 17 hundreds we wouldnt have these shootings BTW:shooting bullsies is fun
Shooting targets are fun! Shoot, I was a Sharpshooter in the Army. Target shooting or hunting with rifles is fine. Guns are not. You cannot go hunting with a gun. It's only intended purpose is to kill another human at close range.
not true you can go hunting with a gun IF you are in dire need of meat
And if you can get within a few feet of the animal. You can justify guns to your heart's content, but it's still a fact that guns are designed for only one purpose; To kill people.
my uncle who lives in wales owns a sniper for hunting.............<br/>he kills animals at well over a mile <strong>and</strong> his gun has a scope <strong>and</strong> he is not in any real <strong>need</strong> for meat...<br/> what he does is illegel to you but it our reality it is perfectly legel..........<strong>ha!!!!!!!!!</strong><br/>
Don't you know how to differ among what is legal and what is ethical? If it is that the case, we go bad.
You have to remember that guns don't kill people, people kill people. A weapon is only as deadly as the one using it. I read a few other of your comments, and I think you're right about a few things, however, I don't see the problem with somebody owning a weapon. As long as they don't use it for harmfull purposes, its fine. You may or may not agree with me on this subject: I don't see the harm in having a gun for show or for a collection. I make knex weaponry not to go around and shoot people with, but for show, and to test my technical skills. Knex weaponry is not the only thing I use my time on though. For example, I'm making a hovercraft.
Sheesh! This is starting to sound like an add for NRA! I never said that "guns kill people." What I said is fact: Handguns have one and only one purpose, to kill human beings. Handguns were never designed nor intended for any other purpose. Nobody ever designed a real gun for the sole purpose of display. The discussion wasn't so much about what you use knex for. This was covered earlier in the discussion.
Oy! It isn't my fault people decided to battle their views on guns here.
That's what the forums are for. ;)
What about in movies like "Independence Day"? A handgun killed an alien! not a human! But you're right, guns were designed to kill people, until people discovered that they could hunt with them. Then a hunter learned that putting shot into his musket made it easier to hunt fowl, and the shotgun was born
You probably would swallow a suppository too. Nothing worse than a really stupid argument.
no,guns kill if used for a certain intent.people kill peopl, guns can kill people, and there is too many of them being used not for target practice,or hunting for ducks or moose. Knex guns are entirely different because they are not leathal if used correctly. I do half to agree with you thogh it the "You have to remember that guns don't kill people, people kill people. A weapon is only as deadly as the one using it." ting.
What?Wait...What? You cant go hunting with a gun? Sorry dude, but like everyone who owns a gun(excluding a few phycopathes(VT dude)) use it for sport(skeets, its quite fun), or hunting(excluding milatary personel)Close Range? Are you <a rel="nofollow" href="http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2041143124254267247&q=sniper+rifle&total=2504&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=4">kidding me</a>? Who said killing humans is bad? say a man kills 10 inoccent people. You have the power to blow his brains out. You dont because your retarded. He kills another 50 people before blowing his own brains out. What now?<br/>
Ah! So you've figured out how to post your stupid and uneducated message to a public forum! It doesn't make the statement any more intelligent, just more public.
LasVegas, is this (Nov 6, 2007. 11:35 AM) for me?
Absolutely not! It was directed to Ludwig Gunner's silly statement above. Instrucables system recently changes to send us every response of any thread we participated in. I preferred it when we only received direct responses.
a rifle is a gun man!
Get a life and read the statements. Your arguments are juvenile.
sooooooooory!!1 i didnt look at those but thats kinda dumb so u think that a rifle is a gun huh. so if u bring a rifle in public and u get arested for firearm possesion are u ganna say that it wasent a fire arm????????
Again, semantics! The original definition of <strong>gun</strong> even included cannons (a gun that acquired the name &quot;cannon&quot; from a brand name). Today, <strong>gun</strong> is a synonym for <strong>handgun</strong>; A device designed exclusively for the purpose of killing another human. <strong>Firearm</strong>, is the word that is used today in place of the old use of gun.<br/>
if someone is goin to kill another person theyre gonna kill them with a gun or no gun.
btw gun can be use for defense also.
This thing IS for target shooting. Whait, are you using the term 'handgun' and 'gun' interchangebly? Last I checked, a rifle was a gun.
Semantics, but... If you ever join the military you will have it drilled into you that a rifle is <strong>not</strong> a gun, but a weapon. 'Gun' and 'handgun' <strong>are</strong> synonymous. While the dictionary may disagree, society doesn't. 'Gun control' is concerning handguns only. Rifles are not controlled. Assault weapons are another mater altogether, but are never called 'assault guns.'<br/><br/>Yes. This is a toy gun. That was acknowledged in a previous post.<br/>
Ah, now the entire discussion is making sense. Why are only guns controlled? Isn't a sniper as deadly as a gunmen?
Yes rifles are as deadly, but rarely used in crimes. A sniper rifle (one with a sight) would be illegal only if it's considered an assault or automatic weapon. All weapons under either these categories are illegal.
You know a freakin' lot about arms control.
dude thats retarted it all started becuz he kept getting bullied lol btw ur children are missing out. dude lighten up ur being to insecure
Learn your native language or get off the bus. You'll never be able to make a valid argument if you can't speak the language.
Hehe, I was renovating my instructable and came across that. Simply hilarious.
