Last weekend my fiencee and i went camping in Missouri and it rained the whole time, i couldnt start a fire so we ended up eating cold tortillas and cheese....we were gonna have quesadillas, i wish i wouldve brought something like this along. Nonetheless, we learned a valuable lesson!

It's not a good idea to leave your alcohol bottle open so near the burning stove. Put the cap on the bottle once you fill the stove.
Stealth007 says: Jun 3, 2010. 7:07 AM
I wonder if bacon fat would work as a fuel source if you run out of alcohol.  Cook your bacon, then save the fat for later.
ColdGin in reply to Stealth007Nov 18, 2010. 7:24 AM
how do you cook the bacon if you're aout of fuel?
moneyfuskie935 in reply to ColdGinMar 16, 2012. 8:21 PM
You cook the bacon before you're out of fuel.

LOL, another version of the "chicken or egg" question xD
spiritwalker6153 says: Aug 18, 2011. 9:27 PM
One quick question: How do you put out the stove when you are finished using it?
ImageMaker in reply to spiritwalker6153Nov 18, 2011. 6:41 PM
If this is like most of the tiny "can" stoves, it'll run out of fuel very soon after the water finishes boiling. If you test it and find out it burns too long, I suppose you could premeasure your fuel (but it's probably a good thing to have some fuel left after the boil, so you can, for instance, simmer your soup packet to cook the noodles). If it's a big deal for you, an unperforated can slightly larger than the one used to make the stove (say, a can from soup or beans, cut off to a suitable length) could be dropped over the stove to smother the flame instantly -- though alcohol vapor from the hot stove could reignite pretty easily if you take the snuffer can off too soon.

Great and simple, I like it!

I just wanted to know if you could PLEASE put the video into an insructable.  I have dialup and my downloading rate SUCKS so I was just wondering if you could put it into an instructable so that I could actually see how to make the stove.
=D

time to get out of the stone age of internet freedom and join the world with a high speed always on connection

I decided to follow yor advice, and am now the proud owner of a ripnet 100 mbps internet connection! yay!
airicknuin in reply to 171292Feb 14, 2010. 4:33 PM
dude, its 2010 and you still have dial-up?  Anyways, its simple to make.  Punch 12-15 holes around 1/2" apart.  Bam, you're done.

This is a nice instructable and i wish you can make another alcohol stove

I liked it, I'll make one, just in case for fast cook. thanks for the idea !
medius says: Feb 6, 2011. 1:56 PM
Well done! It is tangible simplicity. I have made one of those stoves where you cut 2 pop cans apart, and bend edges, and use a drill, and all that fancy stuff, and this works even better! A mod would be to bevel the top like so _[]_[]_[]_[]_ just a little to that the pot can be set right on top without depriving the flame of oxygen. I will have to try this next time I get back out into the woods for some backpacking.

how long can it burn without refuleing?
ruralcanoe says: Nov 21, 2010. 9:12 AM
Cyberscann54---
Would love to have access to high speed but major companies don't seem to think that people that don't live in major cities are important.......some of us prefer the beauty and serenity of rural life over access to the latest technology.

This is probably a dumb question, but how do you put out the fire when you are done? Do you just blow it out?
Arano in reply to jatohaSep 3, 2010. 12:22 PM
put the empty pot on it... up side down...
Levlle (author) in reply to jatohaJan 23, 2009. 7:26 AM
It's really not a good idea to try and put the fire out. It's best to let it burn out, which usually takes only 7-8 minutes.
stephenniall says: Jan 6, 2009. 8:34 AM
COol Im gonna do this but add some cotton inside
Adastra62 in reply to stephenniallJul 15, 2010. 9:40 AM
use owens corning pink insulation instead of cotton.
Levlle (author) in reply to stephenniallJan 20, 2009. 8:02 PM
The only problem with adding something like cotton to the alcohol is that it will give off soot and black smoke while it burns. The alcohol alone burns nice and clean and does not leave burn marks on your pots. Just a consideration.

I've been checkin out the stoves, and yours is simply perfect, I will make a coupla these to have around for camping or "just in case" lost power for 8 days last winter and it sucked big time. thanks for takin the time to make a very helpful down to earth excellent instructable w/music even.

Hey!

Best stove I've seen on the whole homepage. Simple, effective, cheap, durable and light that's a real hobostove ^^ !
respect from austria

music was great , the thing is simplicity , you can use any can, make the hole a lot smaller and when the pot sits atop it after you let it light for a while , you will get jets, very cool looking

Dangerous if you tip them. well itf your a ding bat. throw a wet (with water) towel on it, or just water. if you thin out the alcohol you will drop the evaporation and it will go out.

do that with white gas and I will see you in the ER

try this site a treasure trove of homemade or not alcohol stoves.

guy90 says: Jun 8, 2009. 4:04 PM
for a hob-like effect (more then one one burner), apply some plumbing skills to secure 3 or 4 of these hobo grills together with a long copper pipe e.g. _\_/_\_/_\_/_ once you gain a steady flow of the fuel, your away.look into advanced spirit burners for more info on this
surtuo3 says: Jun 6, 2009. 10:15 AM
Instead of the denatured alcohol, you can use a "Compressed Trioxane" brick for fuel. They only weigh 5/8 of an ounce or 18 grams per little brick when in the wrapper. I use these everytime I go backpacking with that exact stove. They are very reliable. I believe you can pick them up at any surplus store.
