Introduction: Hogwarts Pumpkin Pasties

Make your very own delicious Hogwarts treat with this easy to follow instructable!

Step 1: What You Will Need

You will need the following for the pasty crust:

1 1/4 cups all purpose flour
1 tablespoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
8 tablespoons butter, cut into chunks
4 tablespoons ice water

You will need the following for the filling:

1 cup canned pumpkin, not pumpkin pie filling
1/4 cup sugar
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon

You will also need:

pastry cutter (optional)
plastic wrap
mixing bowl
wire whisk
measuring cup
tablespoon
teaspoon
knife
rolling pin
spoon
fork 
small bowl
cookie sheet
cutting board

Step 2: Make the Crust

Place the flour, sugar, and salt in a mixing bowl. Whisk together until blended. Scatter the chunks of butter in the flour mixture and use a pastry cutter or your hands to combine. Continue rubbing the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse yellow meal, with no white powdery bits remaining.
Add 4 tablespoons of water over the mixture. Toss the mixture together with a spatula until it starts clumping together. If it's too dry, add another tablespoon of water.
Gather the dough into a ball and wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1 hour.

Step 3: Make the Filling

Combine the pumpkin, sugar, nutmeg and cinnamon in a mixing bowl. Mix well. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.

Step 4: Making the Pasties

Roll out the dough 1/8 inch thick on a floured cutting board. Use a saucer or a small bowl to cut out 6 inch circles. Put 2 tablespoons of filling on each circle of dough. Fold over like a taco and crimp the edges together with a fork. Bake on an ungreased cookie sheet for 30 minutes or until brown.

In my family of Germans from Russia we call this pastry Blaginda. It is really great served warm with a little cream on top and some extra cinnamon.
