Easy to make typographic wire ornaments for the holidays.

Step 1:

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

12 gauge wire
Baker’s twine
Pliers
Tape
Superglue
A cursive typeface for your word. We used Lakeside by Mark Simonson.

Step 2:

Print out your word and begin shaping the wire on it, making sure you’ve left at least 3 inches at the front to make your loop. You can always cut off excess wire, so it’s better to have too much. Use tape to hold down the portions of the wire you’ve already sculpted.

Step 3:

Continue working through the word until completed. Use your pliers to crimp tight bends in the wire. As you can see, I go a bit overboard with the tape, but it helps stabilize the ornament while you’re working, which makes the process much easier.

Step 4:

Apply a small amount of superglue to the beginning of your wire and quickly wrap the baker’s twine around.

Once the glue has dried, make sure the twine is secured and then start the process of completely wrapping the twine around the wire.

Keep the twine tight and try not to overlap too much because it creates unsightly bulges.

I recommend doing this step while watching a movie or listening to an audio book because it can take quite a bit of time and if you rush through it, you’ll definitely be able to see it.

Step 5:

Continue wrapping your wire until you reach the end.

You may find it helpful to unbend certain sections of the letters to get the twine where it needs to go.

It can be hard to keep the twine in place around the corners so feel free to add a drop or two of super glue to help.

When you’ve reached the end of your word, add a few more drops of glue, allow the twine to dry in place completely, and then trim.
