Introduction: Hollow Crispy Rice Eggs

About: In a valiant attempt to keep myself from dying of boredom, I create.
I have been making cookies from crispy rice and marshmallows for as long as I can remember.  The other day I saw a commercial for making this wonderful treat only they were putting the crispy rice/marshmallow mixture into hallow plastic eggs, putting a small hole in the middle and sticking in a few pieces of candy and putting the two halves together, thus creating a hallow egg of crispy rice that rattled.  I just had to do it.  I hope you don’t mind that I didn’t use the brand name products to produce this fun treat.  Here we go.

Step 1:

Supplies:
A large bowl
A 3 qt. sauce pan
Crispy rice cereal (you choose your brand) ($3-5)
Marshmallows (you choose your size and brand) ($1 - $3)
Butter
Nonstick cooking spray (you choose your brand)
Plastic Easter eggs ($1/dozen)
Rubber spatula
One cup measuring cup
Mini M & M’s (or any other small candy about that size, your choice)

Step 2:

(Be smarter than me) spray the bowl with the nonstick cooking spray. Measure 6 cups of the crispy rice cereal, into the bowl.

Step 3:

Measure 2 tablespoons of the butter, and 4 cups of the mini marshmallows (38-40 large ones), into the sauce pan.

Step 4:

Put the sauce pan over medium heat and stir the marshmallow mixture it until the marshmallows begin to melt,

Step 5:

keep stirring until they are all melted.

Step 6:

Pour the melted marshmallow mixture onto the rice cereal, and start stirring until they are all mixed together.

Step 7:

With impeccably clean and greased hands, spray the inside of the plastic egg, with the cooking spray.

Step 8:

Pick up some of the rice/marshmallow mixture and stuff it into the plastic egg half and make a little hole in the middle.

Step 9:

Put 5-7 mini candies into the hole,

Step 10:

and stick the two halves together.

Step 11:

Open the two halves, and remove the crispy rice egg and put it aside to harden.  Keep making them as fast as you can before the crispy rice mixture hardens, (becomes less sticky).

Step 12:

One batch made about 24 eggs.  Not bad at all!

Step 13:

Variations #2:  Use Fruit rice cereal for the cereal, and don’t make it hollow, just  stuff the two halves full,

Step 14:

put them together so that you have colorful crispy rice eggs. Enjoy!
