Holy basil (Tulsi ,Ocimum tenuiflorum) is a sacred plant in Hindu belief.It is cultivated in Southern Asia, in places like Thailand, India and other Hindu influenced countries. The tulsi plant was discovered over 5000 years ago. Tulsi plant worshipped in mornings and evenings by the people. Because of the significant benefits of tulsi, it is now widely known not only in India but also in the Western World. Several studies and various amounts of research have been done to find out the therapeutic effects of this super herb.

Health Benefits of Holy basil

The health benefits of Holy basil are due to the active ingredient, Eugenol present in the leaves. It also contains ursolic acid and carvacrol, both of which have anti-microbial properties..

Respiratory benefits- Holy basil does wonders in several respiratory illnesses ranging from things as simple as mild colds and coughs to bronchitis and asthma. Holy basil has immunomodulatory (helps to enhance the immune system), antitussive (suppression of cough) and expectorant (helps in expelling out the phlegm) properties that provide relief in colds, coughs and other respiratory illnesses. Holy basil contains essential oils such as camphene, eugenol and cineole that help in relieving congestion.

Step 1: Holy Basil (tulsi) Tea

Ingradients:

12 holy basil leaves

1 cup water

honey or sugar to taste.

METHOD:

1. Take fresh tulsi leaves and wash them well to remove all the dirt.

2. Boil water in a pan. Once it comes to a boil, add the fresh tulsi leaves and switch off. Close with a lid and let it steep for a few minutes, strain and sweeten if desired.

3.The tea made with fresh leaves is light green in color with a mild smell of fresh tulsi leaves.

Step 2: Eat 5-6 Leaves of Holy Basil

  • Eat 5-6 leaves of Holy basil It can help in bad breath ( oral problems) and Help in improving memory.

Step 3: Get Rid of Mosquitoes Using Holy Basil Plant

Did you know that you can use Holy plant as a mosquito repellant? Yes that’s true. Researchers have found that That Holy Basil plants can kill the larva of mosquitoes and it can help you keep mosquitoes away.

Holy basil is extremely effective in killing the mosquito larvae and keeping them away. This plant has medicinal properties which does not allow mosquitos to enter your home. So plant a Holy basil in your home and keep it on your windows.
