Trust me when I say that a person does not fully appreciate the importance of home decoration until they find themselves living in a situation in which they are not allowed to redecorate the pre-existing furnishings. After a few days, the peach walls start closing in, the overly bright curtains scream for attention and the ridiculous painting of a mountain hanging over your bed peers menacingly down upon you every morning as you awake.
There are two important lessons to be learned from this. First of all, don't move back in with you parents after college. Secondly, home decorations are very important in keeping peace of mind. Having the ability to decorate and rearrange your furnishings is not to be taken for granted or underestimated. It sets your minds at ease and make you comfortable in our own space. I just use spray paint and markers it works fairly well.

I was just thinking the other day that there's so many great 'decorating' instructables here that it deserved a guide! Good addition - Has some projects I'd missed before. : )
