Man these look good, however... my biscuits turned out like hockey pucks...very heavy. Can anyone tell me if Baking Powder/Soda can "go bad" thereby causing the biscuit not to rise much... Also, is vegetable shortening required or will vegetable oil be an acceptable substitute?

Hey! here are some of the biscuits I made, though the ingrediants are modified. You need baking soda AND powder for it to rise nicely. 1 1/2 cup flour 1 teaspoon salt 1 tablespoon sugar 1/2 tablespoon baking powder 1/2 tablespoon baking soda 2/3 cup milk 1/3 cup vegetable shortening

What's the best way to mix the dry ingredients with the milk? Using my hands is very messy, and doesn't seem to be efficient.
Dec 22, 2007. 10:28 PMGakki says:
Actually it is the perfect way to mix them, but if you're squeamish you can use a fork.
Jun 14, 2008. 8:31 AMcowscankill says:
a butter knife is better, it doesn't get stuff stuck between prongs.

Is adding the milk slower better, or should I just dump it all in there at the same time?

OK, this wasn't published because it needs to be cleaned up a bit first. Here's what to do! - Retake a focused photo of the finished biscuits. Use that as your first and last photo. - Take step 1 and chop it up into 5 different steps. Each photo you have there can be a step on its own.

Flower is a posie. Flour is used when baking biscuits.
Add a few tablespoons of mayonnaise to the batter to give it that KFC moist touch.
Nov 21, 2007. 10:05 PMfungus amungus says:
OK, now you're using more copyrighted images. That's bad. Try and get an original photo of the finished biscuits and use that as your first and last image. Don't be surprised if we're slow about responding, the holidays have already started!
