Since my family likes ice cream, and I happen to have a 4 quart ice cream maker, I think im going to make this recipe tomorrow.
sablelevia says: Nov 24, 2010. 12:55 PM
Do you crush the ice cubes before you put them in with the vanilla salt and milk?
judsonM in reply to sableleviaAug 16, 2011. 4:48 PM
I don't think so, the vanilla, milk and sugar is in the small bag, which is in the big bag where the ice and salt is.
Meenotue says: Jul 8, 2008. 7:23 AM

who says it isn't?
Ballabirdie says: Jun 16, 2010. 11:32 AM
I tried the recipe. I shook the big bag abd the small one, but after a good 7 minutes of shaking it was like icecream that melts- creamy but not solid. What did I do wrong? I double-bagged the small one to avoid salt leaking in, and only had about 1 and a half traysworth of ice. What could have affected it turning out so... bleh? (By the way, Im freezing it now, will that ruin it?)
ladieslilman98 in reply to BallabirdieJul 29, 2011. 4:57 PM
try what i did blend it instead of using a bag it comes out with a texture slightly thinner than a Wendy's frosty

1 Tablespoon of Cocoa

1 Tablespoon of Sugar

1 Cup of Milk

macattak232 says: Jan 7, 2010. 4:01 PM
it was really good but after i took the first bite i added sugar cause it wasnt sweet enough.....GREAT NICE JOB!!
icouldntthinkofone says: Oct 28, 2009. 1:55 PM
why do you need two different size bags?
pieman12 says: Sep 4, 2009. 1:30 PM
also, i'd puy food coloring in the chocolate icecream. if not the coco is in there like little specks
pieman12 says: Sep 4, 2009. 1:28 PM
to avoid the salt perdicament, put the bag with the cream mix into another bag. shaking might take longer though
bugaboo22 says: Jul 20, 2009. 3:24 PM
It's... decent but the problem is the salt seeps in and ruins everything so i'd try without the salt
bugaboo22 says: Jul 20, 2009. 2:40 PM
I am going to try it right now! I'll tell you afterwards how it turns out... HOPEFULLY GOOD!!! so excited.
KMLisa says: Jul 6, 2009. 9:58 AM
Just curious, would it make a difference if I only used one tray of ice? I don't really have enough trays ):
webtarkeena says: Jun 4, 2009. 9:27 AM
This was good. Couple of notes: 1) Vanilla flavor was a little stronger than it needed to be in my batch. 1/8 tsp may be sufficient 2) I only had to shake for about 5 minutes, not 10 3) I used a quart sized ziplock as my large bag, and a sandwich sized one as the small bag, and it worked fine. Less ice is needed with these sizes, of course. 4) Be very careful when extracting the ice cream from the inner bag not to let the saltwater drip into the bowl. Salt does not improve the taste of this treat!
Fashim says: May 25, 2009. 3:56 AM
Can i use the chocolate recipe but instead of cocoa vanilla?
Fashim in reply to FashimMay 25, 2009. 3:57 AM

PKTraceur says: Nov 16, 2008. 2:21 PM
Can you puree a fruit, (per say, strawberries?) then add to the smaller bag mixture?
PKTraceur in reply to PKTraceurMar 21, 2009. 7:44 AM
?
jinonaspa says: Mar 5, 2009. 2:35 PM
great idea, i just tried it! it's soooooo good, if you want a flavor then just add it (if it is smushable) such as strawberries and blueberries. It was a good, one-serving ice cream
anthonyfunk says: Jan 22, 2009. 5:26 AM
can you use regular salt or do you have to use rock salt does it still turn out the same?
andrewdpham3 in reply to anthonyfunkFeb 17, 2009. 5:16 PM
I think you can use normal salt because it's there to make it have a low freezing point
jany says: Nov 20, 2008. 12:05 PM
Why do you have to use rock salt? Can you use regular salt for the same results?
hobo joe in reply to janyNov 25, 2008. 9:58 AM
yes

I've read this somewhere before... Can't remember where... Anyway this looks yum!!! (Or how do I know you didn't take the smaller bag out, fill it with store-bought ice-cream and put it back in to take more photos???)
dsman195276 says: Nov 16, 2008. 1:06 PM
the last time i did this i took the smaller bag with the ingredients and put it in a coffee can filled with ice, salt, and water. then just roll it around until the ice cream is ready.
CrafterCassie says: Aug 21, 2008. 2:52 PM
Oh wow I've got to try this!!! It looks yummy! By the way, can somebody tell me what is wrong with double posting? I'm new and i don't get it.
cowscankill in reply to CrafterCassieNov 14, 2008. 3:53 PM
Double posting is when you post two comments on one 'ible. It is looked down upon in my book, but not really unless yo pass 3 posts.
cowscankill in reply to cowscankillNov 14, 2008. 3:53 PM
If you do need to double post, reply to your own comment, like what I am doing here.
