Introduction: Home Surveillance Via Twitter and YouTube

With the latest version of Yoics for Windows, you can easily make any webcam into your own personal surveillance system, where videos are auto-uploaded to YouTube & a Twitter notification is sent out.

Step 1: Setup Your WebCam

Once you've installed Yoics, select web/IP cam to go to the configuration menu.

Step 2: Setup Your Webcam

Once on the setup menu, (1) select your web-camera and (2) select to change your settings.

Step 3:

1. Select to turn on motion detection
2. Drag your mouse to select a 'motion window'
3. Turn on round robin storage
4. In addition to capturing all motion events, Yoics can auto-create a daily time-lapse summary of all of your events.

Step 4: Notification

Configure email and Twitter notification.

Step 5: Setup YouTube

Add your YouTube credentials.

Step 6: Finished

That's it, now your webcam is your own personal surveillance system.

You can stream a live broadcast from any webcam using Windows Media Encoder.  The broadcast can be monitored using any URL enabled video player (Such as Windows Media Player)

nice work. I recently did some research and came up with my own solution of webcam based surveillance before I found this useful tutorial. for my method I use- - a online file synchronization utility (Dropbox, Syncplicity etc.) OR, - a ftp capable webhost + Super Flexible File Synchronizer (can sync files with a ftp server) - A software that is capable of motion triggered recording (cam wizard, webcam xp etc.) The rest is pretty straight forward. Point the webcam software to save surveillance videos to a specific folder. feel free to tweak the software to your liking. Then sync the folder using any of the above mentioned softwares. This was specially helpful for me since I am behind some super-secured router that doesn't even allow anyone to see my real ip. there are webcam softwares that have ftp and email capability, but they didn't work with my router. Also, I am running windows 7, which automatically cancels out many good webcam softwares.
