Homemade Frosty - An ice cream treat!

 by luch
I have always enjoyed those tasty frosty desserts from Wendy's. Cool, creamy and refreshing, but not always within my reach. It was a very long time ago when I realized that as long as I had ice cream in the freezer and a spoon on hand, i would be able to enjoy this tasty treat at anytime.

The process is very simple and can be very rewarding.

Let's get started!

Step 1: Homemade Frosty - Materials

1. Ice Cream*
2. Bowl**
3. Spoon
4. Elbow Grease

*You may use any flavour of ice cream. However, flavours that contain chunks of ingredients, such as nuts or chocolate chips, will make this process a little more challenging, but not impossible.

**It is best to use a single serving ice cream bowl (similar in size to the one below).

I've always been scolded from doing this (My mum had a friend who suffered illness and could only eat ice cream like this) but I've always done it anyways :)

I learned how to make this when I was a little kid watching "Pee Wee's Playhouse," though he called the recipe "ice cream soup." I have been been making "ice cream soup" for the last 20 years and have found that certain flavors do in fact taste like Wendy's Frosty Desert. For me, lower quality chocolate ice cream with MARSHMALLOW CREAM seems to be a pretty close match for me as far as flavor and consitency when compared with the Frosty. All in all it's nothing more than a milkshake.

Haha! I do this ALL the time. Actually had it for breakfast this morning too! I recommend using Neapolitan ice cream because the end result tastes almost exactly like a Frosty.

this isn't really a recipe its more just mixing and letting it melt XD

I'm sure this is perfectly delicious, and was a bit of a humorous instructable. However, if anyone has a recipe that more resembles the real Frosties, would you please consider posting???

2 parts vanilla
1 part chocolate
then mix, it tastes just like a frosty (breyers is the best to use)

Hey! Yummy. Just add oreo crumbs to make a Twisted Frosty. Or add Coke to get a Frosty Float...ooo, I think I'm going to have fun with this... Luv ya, Tashi :)

Thanks for the coke tip! Gotta try that!

This is really just soft serve icecream. If you really want it to be a frosty you have to add a bunch of chemicals.

i no! stoped geting them recently....but now maybe my frosty crave will cease to exist!

I'm thinking my stand mixer might work. And would help make more. My fiance can eat an amazing amount of ice cream.
luch (author) in reply to truovrldMar 3, 2009. 6:06 AM
I think it would work too. Let me know how it goes, if you try it out.
lemonie says: Feb 26, 2009. 12:06 PM
You could use a blender? L
luch (author) in reply to lemonieFeb 26, 2009. 12:10 PM
Definitely, but it is much easier with a spoon when preparing a single serving. Also, less cleanup and less waste without the blender. :) Thanks for looking.
lemonie in reply to luchFeb 26, 2009. 12:40 PM
Is getting air into the mix important? I'm thinking a fork might work better than a spoon? L
luch (author) in reply to lemonieFeb 26, 2009. 1:51 PM
I don't think it is critical. However, using a gentle folding technique when first mixing does help to make the process easier and at the same time it naturally lets air into the mix. I think you are right about the fork. The spaces between the teeth of the fork will allow for less resistance when mixing. Also, a fork shares similar properties with a whisk.
lemonie in reply to luchFeb 26, 2009. 2:53 PM
I am going to have to use this at the weekend... L
luch (author) in reply to lemonieFeb 26, 2009. 5:45 PM
sweet! I hope you enjoy it! Let me know how it all pans out.
