Making your own alcohol at home may seem intimidating, but it isn’t as painful of a process as many people may think. Kahlua is one of the simpler alcoholic drinks to make, and is a good starting point for those looking to get into their own home brewing.


1/2 cup Water

3/4 cup Coconut Sugar

1/2 cup Rice Syrup

1/2 cup ground Coffee

1 cup Boiling Water

2 tsp Vanilla Extract

3/4 cup Vodka or Rum

Step 1: Coffee Liqueur in 4 Steps

Begin by placing 1/2 cup of water, 3/4 cup coconut sugar and 1/2 cup of rice syrup in a pot. Stir, bring to a boil, reduce heat to low and simmer for 45-60 minutes. Stir often. Make sure it doesn't burn.

While the syrup is simmering on the stove, combine the 1 cup of boiling water and the coffee in a french press and let sit for 15-20 minutes.

Once the mixture on the stove has simmered, it should be slightly syrupy. Turn off the heat and let it cool. You can cool it in an ice bath to speed along the process.

Pour the cup of brewed coffee into the syrup mix, then add the vodka and vanilla. Store in a glass bottle and enjoy immediately, or wait 3-4 weeks for optimal flavor. Give the bottle a shake every few days. Store in a dark place, out of direct sunlight.
