HELP! I bought Castile soap from the Whole Food Market and tried it in my hair. The first time was okay, but after that it kept leaving an icky film on my hair. I couldn't even run my fingers through it. And my hair is normally so soft that barrettes don't stay put. Any thoughts on natural shampoo that won't leave an oily film???

I had the same problem when I used my homemade shampoo w/ castile soap. I found that if I make a rinse using diluted cider vinegar my hair is soft and shiny and easy to manage. My hair was very dry and brittle when i was using commercial shampoo's and I had a bad time with breaking and frissy's. Now my hear is soft and moisturized. No more dried out hair for me. The cider, vinegar is great. Don't worry about the vinegar smell. It goes away in about an hour tops. Good luck.

Sometimes your hair can feel "thick" after using real soap (or using the same shampoo repeatedly). If you're using the Castile soap straight, try diluting it as in the 'ible. If you're using the mix above, you might just need to have two bottles; one a natural shampoo based on this 'ible, and another type that you switch off with.

What happens is that your hair is clean, but has a residue from the soap. ALL soaps/shampoos leave some kind of residue, and it can build up.

The first time I used straight soap on my hair, it did exactly what yours did. However, after using commercial shampoo for a while, and switching back, it's now working beautifully on my hair.

Hmm...never thought about the switching off thing. I'll try that and see how it works! Thanks!!!! :)
