Introduction: Homemade Snickers Bars

Snickers are a classic candy favorite. With just five ingredients you can easily make these delicious chocolate bars at home. This recipe is perfect for beginners and does not require any technical skills. It takes about one hour from start to finish and makes about twelve bars.

Materials:
• Pan (8” X 8” or 8” X 12” work best)
• Medium-sized mixing bowl
• Tin foil
• 8 oz measuring cup
• Microwave safe bowl
• Spatula
• Mixing spoon
• Knife

Kitchen Appliances:
• Freezer
• Microwave

Ingredients:
• 1 cup creamy peanut butter (not natural)
• 1 cup semisweet or milk chocolate chips
• 1 5.5 oz package chewy caramel candies (makes about 1 cup melted)
• 1 cup lightly salted roasted peanuts
• 1 cup marshmallow crème

*Safety Considerations: This recipe does include peanuts and peanut butter and is not safe for those with tree nut or peanut allergies. When using a microwave to heat the ingredients, make sure to use a microwave safe bowl so that the bowl does not morph in shape or burn. Check the bottom of the bowl for information on whether or not it is microwave safe. Glass bowls are microwave safe, as well as some plastic-based ones.

Step 1:

Line pan with the tin foil so that the edges and bottom are covered.

Step 2:

In a medium-sized mixing bowl, stir together 1 cup marshmallow crème and 1 cup peanut butter until smooth and completely combined.

Step 3:

Using a spatula or mixing spoon, spread the crème and peanut butter mixture into an even layer in the pan.

Put the pan in the freezer for 15-20 minutes, or until the mixture is hard.

Step 4:

Meanwhile, unwrap the caramel candies and put in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat at 30-second increments, stirring in between each time. Repeat until the caramels are evenly melted. This should take about one minute.

* CAUTION: Make sure to use a microwave safe bowl so that the bowl does not morph in shape or burn.

Step 5:

Add 1 cup of peanuts and stir until evenly combined. Heat in the microwave for 30 more seconds.

Step 6:

Remove the crème and peanut butter mixture from the freezer. Pour the caramel mixture in an even layer over the top of the first layer.

* CAUTION, the caramel mixture will be hot.

Put the pan back in the freezer for 15 minutes or until both layers are hardened.

Step 7:

Pour 1 cup of chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl and heat in the microwave at 30-second increments, stirring in between each time. Repeat until the chocolate is evenly melted.

Allow the chocolate to cool for 2-3 minutes, stirring every minute or so.

* CAUTION: Make sure to use a microwave safe bowl so that the bowl does not morph in shape or burn.

Step 8:

Remove the pan from the freezer.

Pour the chocolate over the top of the two layers and put the pan back in the freezer for 20 minutes, or until the bars are completely hardened.

Step 9:

Remove from freezer. Allow the bars to soften for about 20 minutes, then cut the bars into desired size and enjoy. For storage, keep refrigerated in an airtight container.
