How Not To

Step 20Duct Tape and Spraypaint Bodywork

Duct Tape and Spraypaint Bodywork
Got a big date with someone materialistic?
Nothing will impress them more than fresh bodywork on your car.
Especially if you just did it yourself with duct tape and spraypaint.

Actually, this might work as Dutch Cop repellant. The last time I bought a car there you weren't allowed to have any holes in your car, but they didn't care how lumpy the patch was.

What really blew my mind about the Dutch car buying experience was how easy it was to register it. The seller took me to the nearest post office and fifteen minutes later I had insurance and registration in my own name. Wow! Let's surrender to Holland and let them run our government!

New England is like that too. If you've got any holes in the car body, you won't pass emissions. The patch doesn't have to look good though. Not sure duct tape would suffice though.

Here in Canada, you can patch a hole with a tin sheet, but you can't have any pop rivets showing, if you don't have access to a welder, and NEED to use pop rivets to hold it on, what I suggest is using a sanding disc on an angle grinder, and smooth the edges of the tin and the tops of the rivets (but not so much as to cut them off) and then use some spot filler body fill, and cover the edges of the tin, and the heads of the rivets, making it very gradual so that it's such a smooth transition that it's not noticeable unless you're actually trying to find it.

Why will holes in the body of a car make you not pass emissions? I'm the kind of person who doesn't car about my car's (actually '89 GMC truck's) emissions and/or gas mileage. My mower probably gets better than 20 to the gallon and I don't care.

It's actually a combination emissions/safety/equipment inspection. If the body is rusty enough to have holes its structural integrity is compromised.

That makes sense, I guess.

well, a lot of things have changed in that time ( i think, i'm from 93 so i'm not 100% sure) nowadays you've got to test your car's "APK" and you"ve got te make sure your insurance for that car is okay, long bevore you buy it ( i think, because i'm just turning 16 and havent bought a car yet :P) but i think it's like this. and WHAT? :O 14 hours delay? for a train? we're pissed off here when our train is 10 minutes late. ( the longest i had to wait for a train is 1.5 hours but that's exeptional) well i believe, all the good things that i hear about the all mighty america! is that there are also so many bad things about the united states. but it's just the ENORMOUS freedom ( they say over here ) but hey we've got freedom here 2 :D. (drugs are legal(some of them(and i call that freedom)))

Fast insurance isn't too much of a problem here, especially if you own an insured vehicle already. You can actually add a car to your policy before it is in your name. Takes a five minute phone call then.

Sometimes the MVD (DMV) requires you to have insurance on the vehicle before giving registration.

It's that way in Arizona, USA.
