Introduction: How to Care for Fantails

About: I love the outdoors and camping. Please be nice and comment on my instructables. Feel free to give me tips!

Hi! I'll show you how to care for your fantail fish!

Step 1: Tank

For your fish you will need a ten gallon tank for two fantails. For three you will need a twenty gallon tank. Four a thirty gallon tank and so on.

Step 2: Cleaning

Clean your tank with a by draining at least twenty five percent of the water and getting new water. Make sure you take the chlorine out with dechlorinizer.

Step 3: Feeding

Feed your fish once to twice a day every other day. Feed them about how much they will eat in one minute. Make sure the food goes and sinks under the water or the fish will get to much air in their stomach and gets this bad thing thing that causes them to float upside down but still live. This is called swimmers bladder.

Step 4: Loving

Make sure your fish sees you a lot and make sure you rub your finger against the glass so your fish comes up and wiggles this tails.

Step 5: Illness

If your fishes top tail is down that means he is sick and you might have to buy some liquids to help your fish.

Step 6: Swimmers Bladder

If you read step 3 I mentioned swimmers bladder. If your fish is swimming up side down or sideways but some peas in the water or a water plant. Fantails need lots of fiber.

Step 7: Thank You

I hope this helped! If you have questions just ask me.

Yes but sand can get in their body's because they have no stomach and choke a fish

what about not letting any food touch the bottom, since that creates too muc anmonia.

Many goldfish keepers use sand or bare bottoms in their tanks.

Yes but the problem these fish are cold water fish and most pet stores only sell them for their cold water fish. Petco is a bad place to get your fish because they don't know what they are talking about. And the food has to reach the bottom or they will get swimmers bladder. My fish eat two types of food.

no matter how big your tank is, try to get schools of three or more species of fish. For an added challenge, get mixed gender and try to take care of a baby fish!

also make sure you feed your fish the right food since some are specially formulated for goldfish, tropical fish, etc.

also get a nice, quiet filter
