Introduction: How to Clean HO Scale Slotcar Track.

We have a lot of AFX slotcar track.

Each time we want to pull it out and play with it we have to clean it but the problem is that we don't clean all the pieces because we don't use them all.

The result is that some of the pieces get rusted and thus lose their conductivity - this is a big problem because the cars won't run on dirty track.

I have compiled my collection of cleaning tips and I hope you enjoy it!

Step 1: What You Will Need.

All you need to clean your tracks is the following:

  • Scissors to cut sandpaper.
  • Tomy track cleaning tool(comes with most new tracks).
  • 180 grit (or finer) sandpaper.
  • Clean cloth or paper towel for wiping the debris off after cleaning.
  • Patience!

So, the only two things I didn't photograph was the cloth/paper towel and patience - other than that everything you need is in the photo!

You will need to cut a square of sandpaper about the size of the cleaning device, simply push this onto the device poking a hole in the sandpaper and then you are ready to clean.

When you have your supplies you can move on!

Step 2: The Method of Cleaning.

So, you have your tool ready, sandpaper loaded and about to start cleaning.

Before you touch the track I need to say one thing - One piece of sandpaper on your tool should do about 20 large straights!

So, lining the pin on your tool up with the slot in between the rails you can rub left and right along the track applying slight pressure.

You will notice it getting cleaner straight away so keep on going.

When you have finished one lane you need to move onto the other lane and clean it too.

Once the piece of track has had the bulk of the rust removed you can get the cloth and give it a wipe over.

I used a paper towel for the photos, you can see the metal debris I got off the track!

When you have wiped your track with the cloth you can move onto the next piece repeating the process.

After you finish all the pieces of track you should be able to race!

Please share this 'ible, if it gets enough attention I will do a few elements in HO scale :D
