Introduction: How to Enter Burning Questions: Round 5

Picture of How to Enter Burning Questions: Round 5
People search for stuff at Instructables all the time. Sometimes they find what they're looking for, and sometimes they don't. But there are a few common how-tos that come up often enough that make us wonder, "why don't we have an Instructable on that?"

The answer is because no one has written one. But you can change all that.

Below is a list of "wanted Instructables". Write an Instructable about one of these topics and you will be eligible to win an Instructables Burning Questions Prize Pack consisting of a robot patch and a Burning Questions bumper sticker! Just be sure to provide a great Instructable and give it the same title as it appears in the list.

  • Rules:
- The Instructables have to be of good quality. So include details, plenty of good pictures, and provide a good answer to the question. If they're lousy (you know when they are), no prize pack for you.
- They have to be titled exactly as they appear above. Why? Because that's what people are looking for.
- They have to have a publish date after July 17th.
- They have to be on the list! Only Instructables answering questions on the list will be admitted to the group and prizes.

If multiple Instructables from multiple users are submitted as answers to the same question, we'll pick the Instructable that answers the question best and declare them the winner. So make sure that your answer is the best it can possibly be!

Unlike previous rounds of Burning Questions, prize notifications will be mailed after the close of the contest rather then along the way as before.

That's it, so go forth and hunt down the answers for some of these Burning Questions! Once again, the title needs to be the same as it is in the list!

Hey, this is a great instructable and is very informative. Just one thing is missing... pictures! It really helps a lot when trying to follow directions so you should consider taking some photographs. Once you do that and leave me a message when you have so that we can publish your work. Thanks! Thanks for the cool instructable and we hope to publish this soon!

This project looks awesome but there isn't enough documentation of you actually making it to be a full Instructable. There are two things which you could do.

1) If you happen to have images of you making your project you can create some more steps, add those additional photos into your Instructable and then republish your Instructable.

2) If you don't have any more pictures of you working on your project, that's ok too. That just means that your project is better suited to be submitted as a slideshow. Your images are already in your library, and you can use the same text that you have already written for your Instructable so it should only take a few minutes to create your slideshow and show the world what you made!

Thanks for your submission and let me know if you have any questions along the way.

This is a great Instructable, but you need to add a main image of the final project to the intro step. Please do that, and leave me a message when you have so that we can publish your work.

Now to convince Dad to create an account and write about how to land a plane...

Sweet, he agreed!

can you win twice?

orksecurity (author)2008-07-17

Some of these are too general to answer in a single ible, I think. "How to cope with aging" -- the question is which of the many aspects of aging one is not coping with; each may have different answers, and the answers may be different at different ages even for a single individual. (Some are trying to cope with simply not being teenagers; others are trying to cope with losing friends; others are trying to cope with losing parts of themselves... and some of us are just trying to cope with a coping saw.) This question begs for a book... or a library... unless you trim it down to a subset. Stock investment tips: The most important tip is to be extremely suspicious of any brief tip, including this one. If it was easy enough to be summed up in a tip, everyone would be doing well in the market... and we've got plenty of evidence right now that this isn't the case. Second most important tip is that unless you can put the money aside for many years, it probably doesn't belong in the market; the shorter the term, the higher the risk. Third: A Good Diversified Index Fund Beats Most Other Options, And Takes Near Zero Effort.

Big Bwana (author)orksecurity2008-07-18

About your second tip, if you want to due short term ?? just goto your local gas station buy all there jerry cans, fill them with gas and wait a week ... <> just bugging

Keith-Kid (author)2008-07-17

Admin, huh?

Keith-Kid (author)ll.132008-07-18

I think admin is a shared account, they all have access to it, for various purposes.

I've already got answers for half of these, I saw bumpy's thread and wrote up push starting a car, need to get the pics though, covers the techniques I've found best, want me to combine with jumpstarting or do separately....

I also posted a push-starting description before noticing yours. Thesis plus antithesis... Time for synthesis?

I've not posted it because I don't have pictures yet, I'm taking them tomorrow, while assesing the pushability of the new car, it's an MPV which I'm not keen on...

My impression -- which could be wrong -- is that newer cars aren't push-startable (at least not from battery-dead conditions, which is the usual reason to consider doing this), because until you've got enough voltage to power the electronics and pumps there isn't enough of a functioning engine to start. Yes, there's the "failsafe mode" which it goes into if the ignition module dies completely, but even so... If I'm wrong about that, I'd be glad to be corrected. I'm not convinced photos would actually add a lot to this particular set of instructions, other than pure glitz factor. Video might, by showing folks about how fast the car should be going, why you need to be especially careful if you're doing this solo (as I usually was), the jolt you should expect as the clutch engages, and so on.

Newer cars can be push started, it's just you have no hope of push starting something with very low mileage because all of the parts are still very tight and it's most likely to stop dead, we had our new pickup doing thirty rolling down the hill, pop the clutch to start and it locks the wheels up... I went in to detail and everything and may as well make a video while doing this...

Also I could answer most of them with being me... How to get rid of woodpeckers - Be like me, eat them How to silence your critics - Be like me, eat them

=SMART= (author)killerjackalope2008-07-17

I bet you'd also use that for How to meet girls and How to potty-train a child.

Ummm nope, more like be like me, let them roam over american ruining the place... The girls one works ok, keeping them is the hard part, you always try not to but then you get hungry and...

Weissensteinburg (author)2008-07-17
