People search for stuff at Instructables all the time. Sometimes they find what they're looking for, and sometimes they don't. But there are a few common how-tos that come up often enough that make us wonder, "why don't we have an Instructable on that?"

The answer is because no one has written one. But you can change all that.

Below is a list of Instructables that we'd like to have written.

Write an Instructable about one of the topics on the "Wanted List" and you will be eligible to win an Instructables Robot t-shirt, a Burning Questions bumper sticker and an Instructables Robot patch! The three best Instructables submitted in the contest will also win a copy of the Best of Instructables Book: Volume 1, autographed by the entire Instructables team!

Just be sure to provide a great Instructable and give it the same title as it appears in the list. Please read the full requirements below before entering as they have changed slightly from previous rounds.

Wanted List:

  • Remodel your kitchen
  • Learn to dance
  • Garden art
  • Dog treats
  • Remodel bathroom

  • Homemade paper (updated 3/19)

  • Rules:

  • The Instructables have to be of very good quality. So include well written text, plenty of details, original pictures, and provide a thorough answer to the question. If they're lousy (and you know when they are), your project won't be allowed into the contest.
  • The Instructables have to include their own original images taken by you, the author. Instructables comprised of images found online will not be allowed into the group.
  • They have to be titled exactly as they appear above. Why? Because that's what people are looking for.
  • They have to have a publish date after March 5th.
  • They have to be on the list! Only Instructables answering questions on the list will be admitted to the group.

If multiple users decide to answer the same question, we'll pick the Instructable that answers the question best and declare them the winner. So make sure that your answer is the best it can possibly be.

That's it, so go forth and hunt down the answers for some of these Burning Questions!

Prizes:
Grand Prize: The top three Burning Questions winning answers will receive an autographed copy of the Best of Instructables Book: Volume 1 signed by the entire Instructables team, and a Burning Questions prize pack consisting of an Instructables robot t-shirt, a Burning Questions bumper sticker and a robot patch.

I was just wondering, do we get the virtual patch that other users can see when they look at your profile page?

I have to say that I'm really beginning to worry here: While I barely made the deadline (and I didn't know there was a deadline!), my Instructable doesn't either appear on the Contest or Browsing the food section. In fact, it seems I can only find it in my account page. I might add that I already got the "waiting to be moderated" letter, then the acceptance letter for the contest. I insist: I'm beginning to freak out here!

Your Instructable is now live on the site and entered into the BQ7 contest. It got caught in one of our filters, but we've since cleaned your project out and restored to its full glory. Thanks for your submission. We will publishing the results as soon as possible!

So is it possible to enter more than one Instructable for this contest? I mean for different questions.
Most certainly! You'll receive a prize for each of your projects that gets chosen as a winning answer.

i have an idea...multi purpose pdf creator. anyone can pdf everything what u see at ur computer screen. publisher file, words file, power point, open office file, jpg, internet selection articles or picture. if want, u can pixclip want u see at screen then make some documentation in publisher. after that pdf it and share your pdf with other or use scribd community to share it. very simple but efective.
how to thread eyebrows? What to make them more bushy?
Threading eyebrows is a process by which you use strings to shape and pluck eyebrow hair.
oh, I was thinking someone was adding thread to their eyebrows to make them more fuller and bushier.
There's a lot of potential in that idea - it could be the makings of a great Instructable!

Do you expect us guys to know what that means?

Putting together a "Canning" Instructable could be a problem this time of year: what's available now in canning-worthy quantities? ...Crocuses? ...Marshmallow Peeps? I suppose I could use frozen fruit, or blow the rent money on fresh strawberries carbon-intensively flown in from Chile - - Hey, that must be it: Southern-Hemisphere-based home canners are finally getting their big chance! :)

I don't get Rule #2: "The Instructables have to include their own original images taken by you, the author. Instructables comprised of images found online will not be allowed into the group." If I find a nice image on net (suitably public domain, or with license requiremenents I can & will meet); of the world's dirtiest window, or most cannable peaches, or something; what's wrong with including that image in an Instructable for the contest?
noahw Gorfram5 years ago
Having overseen 6 rounds of Burning Questions already, one thing I've noticed is that when authors actually do the Instructable, and take photos of their actions themselves, rather than just piece together instructions from photos they've found online, the quality of the Instructable is much, much better. So, one or two great images found online is ok, but when the whole Instructable is pieced together that way, it can start to cause some problems. The rule is really just in place to encourage the author to make/clean/build/craft the project themselves, a staple of the great projects on the site, and therefore be that much more of an expert and well informed author.

Thanks, Noah :)

I guess I misread the statement of the Rule. I thought it meant no images at all from online, when (if I've got it right this time :) it really means that the substantial majority (the overwhelming preponderance?) of the images must be your own pics of your own work.

Just in my reading random Instructables, I've seen the same strong correlation between pics-all-cribbed-from-the-net and not-so-superlative-how-to's.

Thanks again.
(Wow, you're even working on Saturday! At 8:00 am, no less! :)

Could the next burning questions round be more tech-oriented? There aren't too many arduino ibles on this site.
Sunbanks5 years ago
I think there's one or two of those I'd be able to do well :D

Oh! I could do a couple of those, but I'd have to make the equipment first... Time is the problem...
