Step 1: Email School.
Send them an Email saying something like this:
hi my name is _____ I use/currently are going to ______ school. I'm interested in computers, and I'm interested in (how computers work, programming, anything with computers should work.) I was wondering if you had any spare computer you would be willing to let go to a student for educational purposes.
Just something around that, you want to make it seem like you know what your talking about, that your interested in computers, one thing schools liek to is that its for educational purposes, and you want to seem professional.
Step 2: Work the School
After a little sweet talk I got him to say they had an old PC, but we'd had to work out a deal that he couldnt give it away for free.
After replying I stated that, I had an old Pc and that i really wanted to mess around with an old Mac, and I thanked him for his time, and left it at that. He then emailed my back and say he had an old Emac he'd give away to me for free because he took the ram out.
That was fine by me I have some extra RAM lying around so I took it. So I just picked it up and I had a free computer, it wasnt new but it was free.
Step 3: Problems
School not replying
tech guy isnt too cool
No spare computers
Computer doesnt work (This happened to me besides not having any RAM the screen also doesnt turn on. So I'm ganna scarp it for parts if I cant figure it out, But hey it was free so whatever.)
In these cases you can try another school, just keep emailing them, going in person and talking to them, and just keep trying, most schools will try and help out past students, so try a school you didnt get into trouble a lot in, and the teachers liked you.
Hope all goes well.
Sorry if this wasnt too clear it was my first instructable
