How To Light A Charcoal Grill with a Chimney

video How To Light A Charcoal Grill with a Chimney
In this video I show you How To Light A Charcoal Grill with a Chimney.  For years I used the standard method of lighting my grill with lighter fluid but after getting frustrated with mixed results every time, I decided to go out and buy a chimney grill starter (link below) for my grill and I couldn't be happier.

I purchased mine at Lowes however you can buy a similar chimney on Amazon here - http://amzn.to/10Y1CZJ

This is my method (although there really isn't any other way to do it) of using a Charcoal Chimney to light Charcoal for grilling.  I enjoy using a chimney to light my grill because it's a fool proof way to get an even cooking temperature and hot grilling surface every time.  There are no chemicals (lighter fluid) that you are adding to the charcoal to invade the flavor of your food.  I love the fact that I'm also using less consumables (petroleum), and now I'm using newspaper that would have otherwise ended up in the landfill.  It's also cheaper to light a charcoal grill without lighter fluid.  Most of us have newspaper laying around the house but not lighter fluid.  I'm a fan and I wanted to share this little 'how to" tip with you.

By watching this video you will now know what it takes to successfully light a charcoal grill using a chimney.  No longer will you be asking yourself How to Light a Charcoal Grill with a Chimney.

Cardboard is good, but when you go to your favorite grocery store, ask the produce manager if you can have one of the boxes that the wholesalers use to deliver fresh vegetables in. They are covered with a light coating of wax. Just a few small pieces and that charcoal will be roaring hot in no time.

I have been using a chimney for several years now and found that cardboard works better than newspaper. I cut several cardboard strips. Take one strip and staple the ends together so you have a cardboard ring. Take other strips and coil them up to fit inside the ring. Once the cardboard starts burning it will be hotter and burn longer than newspaper. I do use rubbing alcohol which I pour a small amount on the cardboard and it makes it easier to get the cardboard burning.

I like this idea, very nice. I will have to try this sometime! That said, I'm always looking for ways to make things quicker (kids keep me so busy) with less effort and the paper is already prepared and as you can see in the video, it does work nicely too... I like the rubbing alcohol idea too, thanks for the comment!
