    You should be able to unscrew the base of the lamp holder and disconnect the wires. Then you wont have to cut and tape. Nice lamp though.

    it would be really cool to wire the switch up so pulling the
    trigger turned on and off the lamp

    It wouldn't be hard to do, you just need some kind of switch which goes to the same position no matter if it's on or off, now that'd be quite hard to find given the fact that you need it really small, so it fits inside. :)

    I had though to build a gun lamp from a bb gun I found that had siezed from rust. You beat me to it though, and I think this is an awesome build, so instead I shall vote for you. I would recommend a different lampshade though.
