My friend wanted me to make him a silhouette using a laser cutter.
He wanted to give it to his father for fathers day.
I had just a day to get the project done.
My friend had sent me the file and I used Adobe Illustrator to get it ready for the laser.

Materials list (I suggest you purchase this at Lowes)
4 - 1/4" 2'x3 Sheets of Oak Ply
1 - Can of black spray paint. I used flat.
Wood glue
Adobe Illustrator

I made this at TechShop Round Rock- Austin
Check this place out!

Step 1: Open the Photo in Adobe Illustrator

You will open your silhouette photo into Adobe Illustrator.

1. Select the photo using the selector tool.
2. Image Trace the photo. That option will appear in the top mid left part of the toolbar.
3. Bring the drop bar down and select Tracing Results with Outline
4. Hit Expand next to that drop down bar.
5. Select your line color.
5. Make your registration None
6. You should end up with the cut lines for your portrait.

Step 2: Laser Cut Your Pieces

You will want to cut 3 layers for the head and 2 for the guns.

I used the Trotec laser cutter at TechShop Round Rock.

If you dont have access to a laser cutter then please send me a message and I would be glad to help you out.

Step 3: Glue Your Pieces Together

You will want to get some clamps to hold the 3 layers for the face and the 2 layers for the guns.

You will need some wood glue in between the layers.

The glue will be ready for paint in about 30 minutes to an hour.

Step 4: Paint It!

I used some matte black spray paint from Lowes.

You will want to do 2-3 coats.

Step 5: Glue the Painted Pieces to Base

More glue!

Clamp it down and you will be done!

Wait for it to dry and you now have a sweet showpiece for your home!
