* The slice with the cheese on it needs to go in the bottom slot.

* The plain slice goes in the top slot.

Step 5: Click the Lever and Insert the Bread Slices.

Once the lever is clicked in, push the bread slices in a few inches until they have reached the back.

* Caution* Be quick with this step as the toaster is heating up and your fingers will briefly be inside the toaster.

Step 6: Place Your Plate in Front of the Toaster.

Place your plate in front of the toaster to catch your grilled cheese sandwich.

Enjoy watching the cheese melt on the bread.

Step 7: Wait for It...

Depending on your toaster setting, your grilled cheese sandwich should pop out in about 2 and a half to 3 minutes.

The top slice will land on top of the bottom slice and slide onto the plate.

To get a perfect fit of the two slices, you must try to push both slices as flush to the bottom of the toaster as possible during the toasting process. If the top slice is at all crooked, it will land that way when popped out, but it’s an easy quick fix if it does.

Step 8: BAM!

Step 9: Chow Time.

Step 10: That’s the Stuff!

This quick trick was no substitute for pan flipped & buttered grilled cheese, but you can see that in a hurry it does the job very well!

Maybe next time I will butter the bread first and see what happens.

Unless you can be sure that the cheese will not melt and run onto the heating element (which may consequently catch fire, I know from experience!), place a piece of aluminium foil that is about 1cm wider than the bread underneath the bottom slice and curl up the edges to catch any runaway cheese. Crisis overted, this is what I figured out after the first 2 toaster fires.

Genius idea! But, I would butter the bread after it pops out of the toaster.

Thanks! You’re right. Might be a bit smokey with buttered bread.
