Introduction: How to Make the Courier Dart Paper Airplane

About: Paper airplane maker: 400+ designs so far and more in development!

The Courier Dart is a "piggyback" dart able to carry a small plane half the size of itself, or just speed along by itself.

TAA USAF Designation: DCF137-1

Step 1: Materials

Required:
1 Piece of 8.5 by 11 inch Paper
Tape
Optional:
Pencil
1 Piece of 4.25 by 5.5 inch Paper (for the parasite aircraft)
Scissors (for modifications to the parasite aircraft)

Step 2: Begin Folding

Take your paper and fold it along its length. Then pull the corners in and fold them into the center. Then open the paper.

Step 3: Continue Folding

Pull the top down along the bottom of the previous corner folds. Pull the corners in, however not as much as before, making the nose blunt. Repeat on the other side. Then pull the triangle up towards the nose over the two folds. Then flip the paper over to the "clean" side.

Step 4: Gull Folding

Pull your paper in once again on each side into the center, then fold it in half again after releasing it to it's previous shape.

Step 5: Wing Fold

Fold your aircraft's wings down along the paper parrallel to the previous fold. This fold should stretch from the front of the aircraft to the rear.

Step 6: Taping

Tape the Courier Dart along the rear and rear top of your aircraft.

Step 7: Flight (Without a Parasite Aircraft)

Without a parasite aircraft, the Courier Dart flies like a normal dart.

Step 8: Choosing and Building Your Parasite Aircraft

Constructing your parasite aircraft begins with your piece of 4.25 by 5.5 inch paper and choosing a full scale design. This design is then scaled down to it's smaller size.

My usual choices for this role are either a small Kingcobra (https://www.instructables.com/id/How-To-Make-The-Kingcobra-Paper-Airplane/) (as pictured in the #1 slot), or a small Super Dart (https://www.instructables.com/id/How-To-Make-The-Super-Dart-Paper-Airplane/) (as pictured in the #2 slot).

Step 9: Flight (With a Parasite Aircraft)

With a parasite aircraft on it's back, the Courier Dart is slower, but at a certain moderate speed, will deploy it's parasite counterpart in mid air.
