How To Make a Birdfeeder from a Pine cone.

Birds have fascinated people for thousands of years. During the winter, it becomes harder for birds to find food. You can help them this winter by putting up pine cone feeders. If you watch them long enough, you might even see a visitor stopping by to have a snack!

This is my first Instructable!

Step 1 Step 1- Gather Materials

You will need:

-Birdseed (I bought a mixed bag from Tractor Supply for $5)
-Peanut Butter (Creamy)
-Pine cones
-Ortamit hooks (useful for hanging pinecones)
-String (Self explanitory)
-Hot Glue Gun (To glue string in)
-Pan (To pour birdseed in)
-Spoon (To rub on P-Nut Butter)

Optional:

-Glitter Glue (decorations)
-Decorational Stars

I know birds here in Holland loooove peanuts for some reason. And it's probably good for them to have some fat and protein in the winter anyway.

I used to make ones like these a long time ago. I split with the crab (oops) husband and all the little birds that used to come to eat at that area were very hungry the next winter when I was gone. Just remember that those little guys will come to depend on you to put that food out for them.

Yeah, I dont make these very often, b/c I know if I did then the birds would become dependant on me.

You should make a ninja feeder!! Make it so when you hit a target with shurikan in the bullseye it shoots a poptart out!! I would totally get one to set up in my back yard and wait for other ninja to try and use it then right when they go out to get there tart BLAST them with kunai!!! And a couple round house kicks.

I normally see just a common wren, but I know that cardinals and sometimes a bluejay will eat the food, so they might even eat on one too.

you could also melt the peanut butter for like 30 seconds or so in the microwave and then dip the pine cones. In my experience, peanut butter melts wonderfully.. and it doesn't take much to do it.

why would you put glitter on something you're going to cover in peanut butter anyway?

next time do you think it would be less messy to hot glue first before u add peanut butter and seeds or does it not make much of a difference?

WOW... gotta try this... You could use this for squirrels too. Use biodegradable plant string/cord/rope and tie it right onto a pine tree (like, the cone should be touching the tree). Squirrels climb along the branch, see it, and eat :D

I used to make these as a littl'un! I loved these things! I guess I will have to revert to the good old days and make a few of these. My birds look pretty hungry.

They have edible sparkly sugar stuff that cake decorators use. You could decorate the actual cone with that maybe. Hmmm, I'll have to try that. Great first instructable!!!

We used to do this in summer camp but then they told us birds were dying because the peanut butter stuck their mouths closed Still a very good idea to be put out there, i never believed it harmed them
