How to Pop a Pimple

Step 3: Pimple Popping: The clean up

Take your toilet paper or other absorbent sheeting and blot up what ever foulness erupted forth from your pimple, you may apply light pressure to the area to sap out whatever is left inside. Get a clean sheet of TP and wipe the ex-zit and the surrounding area to prevent infection.
Congratulations, you have just popped a pimple.
To prevent pimples from appearing in the first place, wash your face regularly, as in at least once a day, with an exfoliating or anti zit soap.
I hope you have found this Instructable helpful, and remember, a zit free face comes with responsibilities, you gotta keep it clean and, watch out for the opposite sex will simply gravitate to your obstruction free face : )

Have to wipe the flamed needle with an alcohol wipe, use at least 70% isopropyl and you're good to go

I happened to read a "skin care" book (a heavy duty one by a doctor) and came across, among all the dietary suggestions, this GEM of information:

Many commercial "anti-pimple" cremes are -inflammatory- agents because they act to dry out the natural oils of the skin and have astringent ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astringent ) properties that pucker the visible pimple site's size for a time, but irritate the skin to cause pimples to continue to return.

The advice of the book was, DO NOT USE ASTRINGENT ANTI-PIMPLE CREAMS, they'll clear things up for the short term but make the pimples return long term. USE ANTI-BIOTIC CREME! After this common sense revelation, I started using Neosporin instead of the anti-pimple creme that I had tried before, and the change worked wonders, I really recommend it.

The ones with drugs that kill the bacteria.

Question. If I do this...would it leave a scar?

No.

i actually like your hat, and pretty interesting instructable. you might want to consider the cinged needle. maybe try putting it in hot water. you don't necessarily want the residue from the burnt match which settles on the needle going into your skin. NOT exactly the best idea.

Yes, that is a jaunty hat. Is it a tam, or a cap, though? Nice instructable, very well put together. I am 36 and married so no longer need to worry about zits or scars. I get em, but who cares? I actually look forward to the rewarding pop of the occasional pustule (i learneded that word here!) and LOVE tweezing a long ingrown hair from my neck.

Thanks! Heating needles has long been a method for sterilisation. Between having a dirty needle in my face or just some soot particles, I'll take the particles LOL.
Goodhart in reply to KentsOkayApr 18, 2008. 8:53 AM
Hmm, soot "could" possibly end up clogging a capillary and you would replace that sore pimple with a possibly even more sore blood clot I try to use isopropyl alcohol when I can.
DjProToJeeX in reply to GoodhartApr 19, 2008. 7:18 AM
you can do what mushroom growers do for sterilization flame then wipe soot with isopropyl and a cotton ball.
Goodhart in reply to DjProToJeeXApr 19, 2008. 8:22 AM
I hadn't known that, I will have to investigate ( I live in the Mushroom capital of the USA :-)

Still, the hottest most sterilizing part of the flame is just above the corona where soot shouldn't be generated (as you are not removing O2 from the flame by being just outside it). I don't understand the need for adding carbon particles to a clean needle
DjProToJeeX in reply to GoodhartApr 19, 2008. 9:04 AM
i use a alchohol lamp for the flame as well for reference purposes
khaeotixs in reply to KentsOkayApr 18, 2008. 3:32 AM
A better way of sterilizing your needle (if you can be arsed doing this =D) would be to:
Take a pan/other metal container
Fill with water
Bring water to boil on a cooker/fire
Drop needle(s) in,
Extract needles with magnet
Aaand your done!

Too much work.....Use barbicide....kills everything from staph to HIV. If you don't have barbicide, use bleach for at least 30-seconds. Better yet, use a better method than a needle to kill a zit, is to give a gentle squeeze. If it will pop, it will. If not, live with it, especially if you are going through puberty. The harder you wash your face with antibacterial creams and all that garbage meant to create a market, the more acne you will suffer....so you will buy more of their "skin care products". Alcohol/hydrogen peroxide dry out the skin, and can increase irritation, especially on the face.
khaeotixs in reply to PrometheusApr 26, 2008. 3:27 PM
tbh if you got that "barbicide" stuff inside you... it might just kill you too.
Prometheus in reply to khaeotixsApr 27, 2008. 12:01 AM
Actually barbicide is not as toxic to humans as chlorine is. Your local cosmetologist will soak combs in it after every "job" to assure sterility, and for some reason, is not nearly so harmful to humans and is nearly hypo-allergenic, if not absolutely. Also, unlike chlorine, barbicide does not eat into flesh. This is why bleach feels greasy on your hands, because it is chemically dissolving your skin from the get-go. Barbicide does not do that so easily, if at all. However, it is not approved for contact with mucous membranes such as the mouth, nose, eyes, urethra, vagina or anus. Barbicide is blue, like coffee-pot cleaner, but has not caused a reaction to the skin that I have observed. Also, I might add that you cannot easily contaminate the bloodstream from a pimple by simple contact. You would literally need to trap it inside your body for it to have any effect. Barbicide has no known effects to those with psoriasis of the scalp, which is about as good a contact with the bloodstream as you could expect in common use.

I'll take your word on that... you seem to know a lot on the subject

My Mom use to tell me: " If you eat a lot of CELERY STICKS you won't get any pimples! " And guess what, it works!!! Although if you put cream cheese or peanut butter on the celery sticks, well, that's just another story!
KentsOkay (author) in reply to nororuApr 9, 2008. 1:36 PM
Hmm... eat celery...
