In order to get this look to the Cube, all you have to do is move the middle column (doesnt matter what color) up once and rotate the cube 1/4 turn clockwise until you get the centerpiece look to it. you can only do this when the cube is solve, by the way. anyways, to undo this, just pick a side, rotate the middle column DOWN and turn 1/4 turn COUNTER-clockwise until the cube is solved.

As a hint for how to get out of this pattern and back to the solid cube, move your E or M so that you make an "H", and then just complete the middle rows that are missing a single middle square. For an added challenge, learn how to make specific tripplet pairings such as red, green, and blue for the 4th of July or red, green, and white for Christmas. Or my personal favorite of red, yellow, and blue for the pigment primaries. For that last color tripplet, learn how to make the center yellow square move to either the red or the blue faces.
