How To Take An Amazing Ebay Photo Without A Camera

Do you have a small object that you can not take a good picture of so you can sell it on ebay? Do you want to sell something on ebay but do not have a digital camera? Well, This instructable will teach you how and all you need is a scanner. Please Rate This instructable!!!!!!

Step 1: Gather Materials

For this project you will need a scanner, a computer, object small enough to fit in scanner (flash drive for me but you can even scan Ipods), Blank sheet of paper... Sorry Camera Phone used

There is an easy way to get pics for eBay sales when you don't have a camera OR scanner....

Either Google images search or find another ebay listing for the same item.  chances are, you will find a picture of what you want to sell.  (and maybe even get a good idea what it is worth.)  Just make sure you don't use copyrighted images and that you fully explain any "differences" between the photo and your item.

I ended up doing this when I was selling my friend's car for him.

It was white and I could not keep it clean enough to get good photos. So I just grabbed some off the the net. The car I found even had the same cabin trim piece missing as my friend's car.

I took that as a divine sign that it was okay to do this. ;-)

There is actually a difference between taking one yourself and going on google.

I agree, that is why that I said that you must list any problems or variances in your item then the photo.

This is actually common on ebay, as people may have 20 or 30 of the same item.  Instead of taking a picture of each one, and worring about each listing separately, a single photo worked. 
I did this when I was selling memory chips.  The photo on the manufactures webpage was much nicer than mine.  I had about 40 chips to sell.  SO I used theirs and made a note in my listing.  No one minded.

Again, this wouldn't work for selling a car, but it works for some items, and it is a completely vaild way to do it if you don't have a camera, or scanner.

it is really intersting, a dull idea about scanning an object instead of a now ubiquitously found camera device, bringsout an invention for a quick way for texturing a human head in 3D soft. Amazing to see how this system of sharing in instructables also leads to new inventions.

self portraits turn out better if you put a black blanket over your head while it's in the scanner.

you know that the light from the scanner is not good for you skin. that is why they put a door to keep the light in and not out

The reason scanners have a door is to keep light out. You've got to understand the way light capture works to know what I'm talking about.
I'm horrible at explaining thing, but I'll give it a shot.
Scanners work the the same way as any camera does(or even the human eye). The shutter opens up to expose the film or sensor to incoming light and that's how you get an image. To much light and the image becomes washed out, hence the door over the scanner, and shutter times on cameras.

Actually,Scanners have The safest Type of Light color,They are specially Designed to Emit No UV light So that they don't damage the Ink on the Papers they scan,Even An LCD back light is more harmful that a scanner

Years ago I watched a movie at the cinema called... well, it was german and I don't know the English title - 'Cannes reel'. A collection of the best ad spots of the year before this movie.

And there was an spot of a manufacturer of copying machines showing exactly this: an artist producing portraits, Oh, can your scanner handle color? ;-)

It can! But the black and white lamp is a constant white, whereas the color lamp actually pwms red, green, and blue, which is what really produces the different colors. The whole PWMing thing was messing with my head, so I went old school w/ B&W.

I doubt that you'd be able to do it with your head, but maybe with something that you can turn at a fixed rate...
