To easily add some strengthening you could use 2 part epoxy resin. I like the idea of using old credit card, possibly a couple of pieces epoxied together!

what happens if it breaks in the lock
Aug 13, 2008. 8:50 AMnabzaf says:
ok if it breaks off just burn the lock. it was made out of wood. the people who make a copy for keys are the one who found your keys made the copy and now will follow you to your home and break in while you are out

Jul 22, 2008. 12:57 PMnivaneus says:
Well you could probably get it out using a variety of different tools, if all else fails you can always take the lock apart to get it out. Sorry about my last comment i couldn't resist.

So this is for some sort of lock they stopped making sometime in the 17th century, or what? This sort of lock doesn't exist in the United States.
Aug 2, 2008. 8:00 PMpindalanderz says:
my dad's workplace has locks with those kind of keys. You are partially right though. they are very uncommon in the U.S. I never saw one until my dad got his current job.

It's a Chinese lock. I have one on my door, only more shiny and new. It doesn't have the wheel, though. The lock is very good, as it has 2 deadbolts, and another lock at the top.

Dec 27, 2007. 4:35 PMRaNDoMLeiGH says:
this would be a handy thing to have hiding in plain sight, in case you are the type to lock yourself out (um, that would be me!). You could make a popsicle stick key and just put it on, or even behind, the trim around the door, or if an outside door, just toss it into a corner. In the US it's better to use a metal key though I have made one from an old credit card and kept it duct-taped to the inside of my bumper. (I had to learn to pick locks because of my unfortunate habit of leaving the keys on the wrong side of an automatically locking door in college.)
