Once you have burned your CD or copied the files to your thumb drive, make sure your Xbox 360 is turned off, then put the CD in the Xbox 360's disc tray, or put the thumb drive into a USB port on the console, then turn the 360 on. Select Yes, update now, and wait until the update is finished being installed. Your Xbox 360 will now restart, and the update will be installed.
There's only one. If somehow this doesn't work, the only other way is updating via Xbox Live (try playing the game while online). You should just do that anyway if you can.
ive also tried it step by step by step and it doesnt work for me either i tried the usb method and the cd and the dvd and none of them works for me. fkolbe had a good question do i need all those files or just that one. thanks for any help you can give me
Read the comments if you're having trouble. If none of them have the solution, do the instructable over again, and follow them exactly. If you have the NXE (if you don't know, press the Guide button. A menu should slide out from the side of the screen, like in the pictures here), then you don't need this update.
I also followed the instructions but to no avail it didnt work. I got my 360 and then formatted it. Then using a internet connection updated after making an xbox live account online, but not buying a subscription. That in turn gave me the NXE. after that I turned it on and tryed playing Fable, and then I got the "original x-box game is not supported" message. I may have miss read something somewhere but I thought if you updated and got the NXE it then should be backwards compatible. Does it matter which usb the thumb drive goes into? or does it work easier on cd-r? please help cause I really want to be able to use all of my x-box games.
You formatted your 360? Wtf? I didn't tell you to do that. The NXE update doesn't include any backwards compatibility updates any more, I don't think. You have to connect it to the internets and then run the game. Sorryz.
format of compressed file, there are others like tgz, and rar.. these are all compressed as well.. but windows will use zip without the need to install third party software...
um... im trying to use a flashdrive and i followed every step, but when i turn on my xbox it dont pick up the update file. how do i make it work? Thx. XboxGam3er94
No matter what firmware version your Xbox has, it can connect to Xbox Live. It has to be able to, otherwise you wouldn't be able to download updates. As for the thumb drive/CD, you're going to have to give me more information than that.
I have all the problems above. I've tried everything to update my console. My console was made in 2006 and doesn't have a hard drive. Because it doesn't have a harddrive I cannot use Xbox 360 Live. This is correct right? I burned a CD and it didn't work. I loaded it onto the USB and it didn't work.
Above, one of the posts said the reason why the upgrade didn't work is because there is no hard drive. Simple question: Do you need to have a hard drive to update the console? Most of us think an upgrade would be similar to a firmware upgrade to flash memory within the unit.
Second question: the latest update files for 2009 has 7 or 8 files but in the instructions above there was reference only to a single file. Are all 7 or 8 files supposed to be loaded in the specific folder you describe?
