I have the newer (and better) version. You can download the whole Visual Studio at the place where I got it. Click here to get it.

... not really great programming language, for a begginer I would start with gamemaker(www.yoyogames.com), has a great help file and is simple to use

...Really? Microsoft Visual Basic is just like basic, with tweaks to add special Subroutines that do stuff like open a window, add a text box, button, etc. And I found BASIC very easy to learn. As a matter-of-fact, I am working on an 'ible for it right now.

I have visual basic, tried it, can't make a thing with it! (try to make a game with it :P), and gamemaker is easier but reaaaly powerful if you use dlls, and there is is a very life community at gmc.yoyogames.com, I could NEVER find help for visual basic(and I do have darkbasic, but I can't see the connection between the two)

For games, try MS Visual C#. Awesome language, C# is.

What version do you have? I have Microsoft Visual Basic 2008 Express, as well as Visual Studio 2008. Awesome help file, learned a lot in the first 2 days of using it. I always found Game Maker a bit challenging. Also, you can't make a game in Visual Studio/ Visual Basic. It was designed for Windows Forms. As far as I know, you can't load Sprites onto it. But thanks for the dll tip. I now know that GM uses C++.

gm doesn't use c++, it has kinda the same syntax, but when starting with gm you should start with the drag&drop functions, after you master that its quite easy to start scripting in gm, just find a nice tut on the net(I can't remember which version I had :p)
Apr 28, 2008. 5:14 AMYummyPancakes says:
If it doesn't use c++, then what does it use?
Apr 29, 2008. 12:36 AMlieuwe says:
it uses GML(GameMaker Language), which is similar in syntax to c++ but a hole heap easier
Apr 29, 2008. 2:17 PMYummyPancakes says:
Hmmm... Where can I find a tutorial on GML? I'm guessing it's object-oriented as c++ is.
Apr 30, 2008. 2:07 AMlieuwe says:
yes its extreme object-oriented, and for some tuts to get started:Here

Spontaneous self-regeneration... Genius!
Nov 26, 2007. 7:32 PMOra says:
But can that program make a program? Because that's the only reason I would want it.
Nov 27, 2007. 11:16 AMwhatsisface says:
I don't want that many programs made, only one less, so I'll look elsewhere.

Sorry, but this is utterly useless random screen shots. At least provide a "Hello World" example. Even better, how to develop something remotely useful. Say, drag a button and edit box from step 2 onto the form on step 3, how to add a callback to the click event to display the contents of the edit box. Something to get people started. Further, these days Microsoft has made available 'Express' versions of Visual C#,C++, and VB that are .NET orientated. Given they're free, more people are likely to experiment with these than the aging VB 6.

It would be helpful when you make the next instructable to add a link to it in the previous one, at the end. Nice instructable.

This looks like its going to be a good concise introduction to VB, however if you keep each part this short its going to take you a lot of instructables to complete the set.
