I once had a dream that I was in science class in my mom and dad's bedroom. Everyone was like jumping on the bed and stuff. The teacher then said "Okay, time to make oobleck!" she pulled out a broken rubber band. "Freddy stick out your tongue!" And a boy stuck out his tongue. The teacher put the broken rubber band over his tongue. And while pushing down, she slid the rubber band down his tongue. And out the tip of his tongue came some blue oobleck. Really trippy dream.

LOL yeah. I almost never have dreams, and when I do, they make no sense whatsoever. Like once I had a dream that I had crazy deep pencil thick holes in my hand. And one where I was in my bedroom which is on the second floor, then I dug up a dead body with really extremely old coins under the body.

I have carefully read this site, and the other, referred to in Shark500's polemic; however, neither posting refers to, what I consider an important, nay, critical fact about the subject. The subject is Oobleck. What is it? More important, why is it? Does it serve any useful purpose? or does it merely serve to focus insanity on this site?
torie_brook in reply to dataphoolOct 27, 2011. 7:50 PM
scientists are also trying to use it for bullet proofing.
geoslim13 in reply to dataphoolFeb 24, 2011. 6:49 AM
Oobleck is the common name for this "non-Newtonian" fluid. It pours like a liquid, but when force is applied it is a solid.

What is it? dunno but its fun lol
Does it serve any useful purpose? = entertainment

Yeah, but like Trebuchet03 said "No need ;)

It's great to have more than one version/method etc. :) His/her recipe is different and what you do (even if someone else already did it) is always a reflection of no one other than yourself ;)
" so take that!

But their all the same. There's no variation watsoeva. corn starch + water = oobleck

"so take that!
Saturn V in reply to Bad DonutAug 6, 2010. 4:48 PM
Yes, There is variations. If you vary the ammounts of cornstarch to water, you will get different consistencies. The thicker the oobleck, the more corn starch required.

Woah, I just saw this cool video showing some of oobleck's properties! (Cool site too).

http://hight3ch.com/post/amazing-liquid-cornstarch/

Skip to the end, where the oobleck starts growing- very cool. Looks more like mercury or something in the video.
crestind in reply to crestindFeb 8, 2007. 6:30 PM
Does anybody know how/why it can grow in the end?
iPodTouchMaster08 (author) in reply to crestindFeb 9, 2007. 6:15 AM
There is a Yery Fast High Speed Pulser underneath the bowl.
PetervG says: Feb 7, 2007. 7:39 PM

I do enjoy your gentleman speech. I find that this instructable is a good one, especially for the middle-school chemistry teacher.

Thank you Trebuchet, I couldn't have said it better. We'll have categories soon, which will also help with the matter.
jeffreyf says: Feb 7, 2007. 5:02 PM
Excellent. See if you can dig up a camera (or even a camera phone) to show how you did it, and what you've done with it.

Not tonight :) I'm flying to Boston tomorrow, and need to pack, but I think there may be some Oobleck attempts when I return.
