How To throw Shuriken

The general shuriken throwing guide. There are many ninja star constrution tutorials, but no general ninja throwing guide. So I have decided to construct this one.

I use paper shuriken. The tutorial can be found here.

Step 1 The Wrist Flick

The power for the shuriken comes form the wrist, not the arm. A true ninja will flick his wrist incredibly fast. Motion blurs are left behind in the world of ninjas.

You can throw from a point or the center. Point will give you more strength (moments), while the center will give you more accuracy, but is more diffiult to pull off. Your fingers or palm can screw up the throw, sending it haywire.

With this design, you will notice the points go in a certain direction. If I flip the shuriken over, you will notice the flat is going first. I am not sure of the difference, but I prefer the point leading. Also, the laws of pressure mean this will be stronger. Smaller surface area means more pressure, thus getting hit by the point is more effective.

The first one I made, I chucked it at my brother and it flew in his face. :( It left a huge gash, so cutting off the points will make it a lot safer (in my opinion)

I think you are missing the point, you shouldent throw it at your brother becasue even tho these are just paper imitations, they are still dangerous.

Sorry, i messed up, I ment to say not to throw it in his FACE soz man, but you get my point? also cutting of the edges won't work, it won't fly as well then, also is isen't as aerodynamic so even if you can do it properly it still won't be strong enough to get more than a few Cm.

I have professionally made throwing knives and shuriken, Most real shuriken are of one point, the star variety prevelent in the movies was only used by one or two schools of nijitsu. Overall a good intro though I would like to add a few tips, one depending on the type of shuriken or knife you have to consider the "step" of the blade, basically if there is one blade it will spin either a half turn or full turn based on things like weight and balance. Knowing this, you should try to hit a given point on the shuriken every time so you do not develop bad habits if you want to go over to single blade shuriken or knives. Other than that do not razor metal throwing implements
no need and you will damage them.

how do you throw a real, razor sharp one without cutting yourself open?

Hey, just got back on Instrucatbles recently. How not to cut yourself? Don't touch sharp edges. Just rest it in your hand, and place your thumb over the point. Flick your wrist, and let the shuriken slide out. It shouldn't spin until it's left your hand... since it slides straight out, it shouldn't cut you... unless the blade was touching you while you where holding it. When I get more proficent I might add a tutorial on throwing bo shuriken... I don't have anywhere to practice though... but the summer will bring oppurtunities.

hey if your going to have ninja wars, iv got an instructable to make shurican and if you look up "paper kunai" click on the one make by "sonicthechao" it is awesome, i use it to hi my little brother all the time, brother= moving target, moving target+ ninja tools= fun!!!!!!!, im gonna fave this because as well i coldent throw it well, it kept looping in the air, it sas cool though

ok so i had a ninja war with my brother and one of our friends is a big feails with like no cover but it was still fun to dodge and stuff, i hit my bro in the head a few times, i got hit the least. let me tell you the rules we made. - if you get hit in the leg once, you have to drag the leg that was hit behind you, if you are hit in the other leg or the same leg a second time, you have to get down on your knees (you can move around on your knees) and if you get hit in the legs, or any where else you die. - if you get hit in the arm, you cant use that arm to throw, and if you get hit in that arm again you die and if you get hit in both arms you can surrender and they hit (kill you) with a shuriken or you can run around dodging but i wont do you much good. -you cant steal each oters ammo -head shots count - when you die you can collect your shuriken, but you cant join in untill 15 seconds after you die, when you die, your killer and you have to run in oppisit directions (keeps them from puppy guarding) these were the rules we used, and if you want you could use kunai which you could also use as throwing knives as well as hand to hand combat wepons. i could and should make this an instructables

i like this. I couldn't throw shuriken for toffee but now, as soon as i make some more, i'll see if i can him m' shed from the other side of the garden. You COULD use the shuriken as supressing fire then close in and fight close up. I'll have to have a war soonish...

Make one and throw it at a friend's back (If you are really concerned about his/her safety, make them wear another layer of clothing) and ask them if they felt any pain.

Believe me, I shot the dart out of my k'nex bolt launcher at my friend's shoulder (he was only wearing a T-shirt) and he only felt a small bit of pain. The dart broke as well.

the flat side goes first on paper shurikins because it makes them more aerodynamic. if flipped the small disrepancies in the height of th paper will make the shurikin wobble.
