Introduction: How to Add/Edit a CRPSHARE Calendar (My.Calendars.Net) Event

This instructable walks you though how to add or edit a CRPSHARE calendar event.

The interactive calendar is currently set to allow anyone to add or edit any calendar event - It will remain set this way unless it is abused.

Ideally, the CRP community will use the calendar to promote and plan upcoming on-campus and off-campus events - including awards deadlines and coordinating the timing of core course assignments (and, possibly, the content of those assignments).

Archiving and exploring old calendars can also help with future individual and organizational planning.

The CRPSHARE calendar was created at my.calendars.net - where you can create interactive calendars (you determine how interactive) of your own in a variety of languages - FOR FREE!

So, let's get started learning how to add/edit events to the CRPSHARE calendar!

Step 1: Go to Www.crpshare.org and Click on the Calendar Link

a pretty self-explanatory first step - go to www.crpshare.org and click on the calendar link . . . .
(Note: occasionally the calendar is down, due to maintenance work at my.calendars.net)

Step 2: Explore the Calendar - Find the Date You Want to Add an Event To.

Check out the calendar! Select the month that you would like to add an event to. Either click on the numeric date itself or on the add events: daily link ito the right of the screen to add an event.
(Note: the duration link allows you to create events spanning several days, the period link allows you to creats events that happen on a regular basis)

If you are editing an existing event, click on the numeric date of the event that you would like to edit.

Step 3: Create an Event

Once you have selected the date that you want to create a date for, click create.

if there are events on the date you select, they will be listed with the option of editing or deleting - scissors icon (see step 5).

Step 4: Enter the Info. That You Want to Include in Your Event

The calendar text box will be what actually appears on the calendar.
No need to include start and ending times in your text box description - once you set these (controls to the left of the screen), they will appear automatically.

The popup text box will be what people will be able to read when they click on your event on the calendar. Email addresses and web addresses included in this box will appear as live links in the popup window (wish the communitywalk maps had this feature!).

The editing window for both boxes is small. Esp. for the popup box, it would most likely be best to edit your text in Word or your email - you can cut and paste text into these boxes.

While you are limited to the default font, you can select different text color and background color for your popup window.

Selecting draw border will draw a border around your event on the calendar, drawing extra attention to your event.

You can also select a category - based on feedback, these categories might change.

Once you are done, click submit.

Step 5: Check Your Work

After you submit your work, you will be taken to this screen. Note the edit command and the scissors for deleting the event. If you click on view calendar- you can, well, view the calendar . . . and how your event actually appears on the calendar. You can return to the editing events screen by clicking on the numeric date associated with the event that you want to edit.

Step 6: Your Event Is Up!

Great! your event is now on the calendar! Click on your event and read the description box. If you don't like what you see, click on the numeric date of the event and edit it (see step 5).

Again, the calendar is currently set to allow anyone to add or edit or delete any event - let's hope nobody blows it.

As a precaution, I will be exporting map data occasionally (but not daily) as a backup. I'd like to keep the calendar as interactive and self-governing as possible (my only other choice/abilitywith my.calendars.net is to limit posters to only adding - and not editing - events. And/or instituting a password), but I'm trusting that the CRP community will not need a net nanny.

I see the calendar as supplementing athenaeum posts and, potentially, postings on a CRP events map(?).

Note that on-campus events that you want to share with the entire UT community can currently be done so through links included on the calendar.

Finally, calendar data can be exported to your outlook / palm pilot / etc. Similarly, data from your desktop calendar can be imported to this calendar. Please contact CRPSHARE if you want map data exported to you.

Hope that you will find this interactive calendar and instructable useful!
